Going against the odds is something which is very important He could have easily only
continued his Nana’s business, but keeping your eyes & ears open is very important; which
helped him scale up.
2. Page 146 – Saying a “No” is sometimes very important for one to get to better options &
have a continued relationship with the other entity.
3. Page 157 – Staying positive is something which is very critical. There might be 100’s of
people who might not relate to what you are doing, or your numbers might provoke you to
stop & go the easy way; but persistence is critical.
4. Page 102 – Fear is not good for business. Having a mentor is always good who can show you
the right path. But, make sure your dreams are always controlled by you, not by someone
else; be it a mentor, or an investor. E.g. – Page74 – Alok’s internet Guru Mr. Gopala Krishna
who helped him initially by laying the foundation of making the contests site live.
5. Page 68 – You are an average of five people you meet on a regular basis. This is an old
saying. A new one is to ensure you meet a new person who is smarter than you on a daily
basis. E.g. – Page47 – When Alok met a socks buyer from C&A in his factory showroom & got
order 5 times. 2 learnings from here – Getting into details as important as even an order you
get might backfire (Learn saying NO) , do your homework before saying a Yes; and meet
people for new opportunities to arise.
6. Page 9-10 - Using connects is very critical. If you are not asking anyone, the answer is always
‘NO’. As Alok used his connect When he took help from Mr. Shah Ruia from Esaar Group
who spoke to the inspector at ONGC. Lat but not the least - Never take anyone lightly.
7. Page 178 – Practise till the time you get perfect. Imagine would Sachin Tendulkar’s straight
drive be that perfect if he was not practicing it for 24 years at least 10 hours a day. Ranveer
singh apparently gave a shot 12 times to make it perfect. This was for movie Padmavat. He
has been playing cricket since last 7 months atleast thrice a week to prepare for ’83.
