Learning Outcomes
The children will be able to :
1) Review curved and straight lines, plane shapes
and solid shapes.
2) Introduce corners and sides.
3) Introduce corners, edges and faces in solid
shapes.
4) Observe and extend simple patterns.
5) To build the concept of symmetry.
6) To build a sense of perspective.
7) To observe tiling patterns as shapes that fit into
each other.

3) Use any classroom object like a book and
point out the corners of the book. Ask them
to find the corners of their desks, or their
pencil boxes.
4) Corners and edges can be introduced in the
similar manner.
5) Toothpaste box can be used to explain the
corners and the edges.
6) Video on shapes to be shown.
7) Classwork- Exercise 8A

Period 3
PATTERNS

1) This can be introduced by making a pattern

using different coloured sheets.
2) Students can be shown daily life objects
that have patterns- like floor tiles, window
grills, sari borders etc. help students
recognize the core of the pattern.
3) Once the idea of repetitive nature of
patterns is clear to students, they can lead
on to recognizing different cores.
4) Use pages 151, 152
5) Number patterns that can be found with
simple addition and subtraction can finally
be introduced.
6) Homework- Exercise 8B questions.

Period 4
SYMMETRY
1) Take a sheet of paper and fold it into half to
make a simple paper cut-out of half a butterfly.
Open the shape and show the class the whole
butterfly cut-out.
2) Distribute paper and invite students to do the

3) Encourage them to look for symmetrical
shapes in the environment.

Type of worksheet Period 5
 Content /HOTS TO BUILD THE SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE
 Reflection 1. ACTIVITY- make the students hold their
pencil box in front of them and draw it from 3
different perspective- top, side and front.
2. Use page 155.

Period 6
SHAPES THAT FIT
1. Use cut-outs of squares and demonstrate how
they can be tiled together in such a way that
there are no gaps and no overlaps.
2. Try to do them with circles. Let the students
observe that circles cannot be fitted into each
other such that there are no gaps.
3. Use page 156.
4. Homework- Exercise 8D
Period 7
ACTIVITIES-
1. Students can make and colour cut-outs of
butterflies in different shapes and sizes. It is
important that they colour both sides
symmetrically too. This will make a colourful
display.
2. Homework- Chapter check-up.
