1. Understanding the Production Process

The process is defined as a method, method and technique of how the actual
resources (labor, machinery, materials and funds) are changed to obtain a result. Production is
an activity to create or add to the use of goods or services, it can be concluded that the
production process is an activity to create or add to the use of an item or service by using
existing factors such as labor, machinery, raw materials and funds to make it more useful for
human needs.

2. Types of Production Processes

There are various types of production processes when viewed from various aspects.
The production process seen from its form is divided into chemical processes, the process of
changing forms, the assembling process, the transportation process and the process of
creating administrative services. The production process is seen from the flow or flow of raw
materials to the final product, divided into two, namely continuous production processes and
intermittent processes. Determination of the type of production is based on factors such as:
 The volume or number of products to be produced,
 The quality of the product implied,
 The equipment available to carry out the process. Based on careful consideration of
these factors, the type of production process is determined which is most suitable for
each production situation.
The types of production processes of various industries can be distinguished as follows :

 Continuous production process

The continuous production process is the process of producing goods on the basis of
product flow from one operation to the next without stacking at a point in the process.
In general, industries that are suitable for this type are those that have the
characteristic that output is planned in large quantities, variations or types of products
produced are low and products are standard.
 The production process is intermittent

Products are processed in product bundles rather than on the basis of continuous
flow in the process of this product. Companies that use this type are usually a set of or
more components that will be processed or waiting to be processed, so that more
requires an inventory of goods in the process.

 Mixed production process

This production process is a combination of continuous and disjointed production

processes. This merger is used based on the fact that every company seeks to utilize
its capacity in full.

Here I take the example of a mixed production process, namely a sugar industry
company, "PT. PG. RAJAWALI II”

Sugar is a simple carbohydrate which is the main energy source and trading
commodity. The most sugar is traded in the form of solid sucrose crystals. Sugar is used to
change the taste to sweetness and the state of food or drink. Simple sugars, such as glucose
(which is produced from sucrose with enzymes or acid hydrolysis), store the energy that cells
will use.

Sugar production process

In the process of making granulated sugar requires many components that are
mutually supportive and sustainable. There fore in one sugar cane tree the sap water (sugar
cane raw water) produces little sugar and there are 3 stations briefly explained, the process

 Weighing
The main purpose of this station is to receive sugar cane from farmers or gardens.
Before being collected sugar cane is first weighed and expressed in quintal round
numbers. Calculation must be done carefully because the number of scales is the first
input number in calculating the processing results. Temporary cane shelters are called
emplacement
During the process of receiving sugar cane, it needs to be immediately transported
to the mill to be milled to ensure the smooth supply of sugar cane and to maintain and
maintain the sugar cane quality, which is to avoid the decomposition and decay of sugar
cane. The possible damage is the microbial process with the presence of microbes that
damage the tissue in the sap, the fermentation process which decreases the content of sap
and physical factors, which are hot and humid emplacement. The setup system is in the
form of FIFO system (first in first out) that is, the sugar cane that comes first is
processed / entered into the mill station (Kuntardiryo, 1997).

 Milling
The raw material of sugar cane from the lorry taken by sugar cane shirt and sugar
cane will experience a preliminary treatment in the form of counting into smaller
fractions, the latter will undergo grinding. Preliminary treatment is intended to simplify
the expenditure of sap when milking the sap at the mill station. Milling is intended to take
sap from sugarcane stems and separate them from pulp. When grinding is given
imbibition water to reduce the loss of sugar in pulp, due to the incomplete power of the
grinding unit. The yield of each milking is different. Sweet sugar cane is released and
sugar cane fibers are separated, then used in heating machines (Boilers) . The juice from
the milking will be channeled to the refining station, while the pulp will be brought to the
fuel gas station. In addition, pulp is also marketed as raw material for making paper,
particle board and fiberboard. Juice from extraction contains about 15% sugar and
residual fiber, named bagasse, which contains 1 to 2% sugar, about 50% water and sand
and small rocks from the land counted as "ash". Sebu sugar cane can contain 12 to 14% of
fiber where for every 50% water contains about 25 to 30 tons baggase for every 100 tons
of sugar cane or 100 tons of sugar.

 Purification
The purpose of purification is to separate between the sap and the impurities that
float and dissolve contained in it as much as possible without any damage from sucrose
by pressing the sugar loss as little as possible with the hope that the resulting sap is truly
pure
