ABSTRACT (Limit 200 words)

OBJECTIVES
1. To calculate LMTD in different configurations of the experiment
2. To determine U average for the different configurations
3. To evaluate average global efficiency of the heat exchanger, both in steady and in unsteady
operation
4. To compare unsteady and steady operation, in factors as thermal efficiency, coefficient and heat
lost
5. To analyze influence of cold fluid mass flow into the evaluated parameters

METODOLOGY
1. EXERCISE A:
(Describe which was the set point in temperature, mass flow for both fluids, control percentage of
hot mass flow and hot temperature; time needed to get steady conditions, and how many
observations we took into the practice.)

2. EXERCISE B:

1
Informe Laboratorio de Transferencia de
Calor II
(Describe how was the cold fluid mass flow and if we operate some changes during the practice in
control percentage, and in which parameter it affects directly. Also, calculate the time and number
of observations of this exercise.)

TABLE OF RESULTS
(In this table you must select only the parameters you think are the most important to achieve the
practice’s objectives. The number of observations in this table does not have to be the same as in
the excel file of the practice. Please, identify both tables, one for Exercise A and 2 for Exercise B.)
GRAPHS
(According to theory presented in class, you must elaborate the pertinent graphs for each Exercise,
giving the respective suitable explanation. You can use the same data from laboratory, or a
selected group of this data)
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS
(If you need, you can use an extra sheet to present the solutions)
1. A fluid of density 1000kg/m³ and specific heat of 5kJ/kg°K passes through a shell and tube heat
exchanger at a flowrate of 1l/sec. If the temperature rise is 10°C, what is the power absorbed in
kW?

2. How do we define the temperature efficiency of a heat exchanger? As the ratio of ...

3. The logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMTD) is used to when determining the
performance of a shell and tube heat exchanger because...

4. The Heat Power Emitted (Qe) from the hot fluid stream to the cold fluid stream in a shell and
tube heat exchanger can be calculated using which formula?

5. The Heat Power Emitted (Qe) from the hot fluid stream to the cold fluid stream in a shell and
tube heat exchanger can be calculated using which formula?
