Lean management is an approach to running an organization that supports the concept of continuous
improvement, a long-term approach to work that systematically seeks to achieve small, incremental changes in
processes in order to improve efficiency and quality.

Lean is a systematic method for waste minimization within a manufacturing system without sacrificing
productivity, which can cause problems.

Lean manufacturing attempt to make obvious which adds value through reducing everything else.

Lean strives to maximize value to the customer while using a few resources as possible.

Value = Quality, customer satisfaction, productivity, efficiency, resource utilization

Waste, defects, time, efforts, cost, energy,

Principle of lean manufacturing

 Identify value (what is the value to the end customer is )

 Map the value stream (identify all steps in the stream and eliminate those that do not create value)
 Create flow (make value steps occur in tight sequence to provide as much value to the customer as
quickly as possible)
 Establish pull (make it so that customer are demanding / seeking out the product rather then you having
to push them.
 Seek perfection (strive for perfection in everything through continuous improvement, eliminating waste,
documenting process and so on.

Type of Waste in an organization

 Defects
 Overproduction
 Waiting
 Non utilized talent
 Transportation
 Inventory
 Motion
 Extra processing

5S Approach
 Seiri - Sort (sorting all item )
 Seiton -Set in order (optimal place for all items)
 Seiso - Shine (cleaning and inspecting workplace)
 Seiketsue - Standardization (standardization the process)
 Shitsuke - Sustain (self confidence )
