Selling Cells (For)

- The persons who sell their cells will not lost anything as their body cells continue to replicate.
Also, we lose our cells everyday from skin and nails.

- In contrast, human cells and tissues (e.g. bone, skin and heart valves) may come from live organ
donors but more usually come from deceased donors in hospitals, or even funeral homes.
- An examination of consent-related issues in tissue by the United States
Department of Health and Human Services revealed that donor families expect
their donations to be treated with respect and recognized as coming from a
human, as well as to represent the best option for recipients.
- 5Tissue establishments organisation have a responsibility towards the donor
and donor families and should thus process donated tissues in a manner
consistent with the intent of the donor, i.e. into products that fulfil medical
needs, crucial research or medical education
- The persons who sell their cells will definitely be credited beforehand. The credit is definitely a
must.
- (Intellectual Property Rights & patent system) This is because the companies that have done their
research for cells commercialization will have their unique invention owned through IPRs. They
bought this rights from the pervious owner, so there is clearly consent and agreement needed
between the owner and the seller. So, this invention will be patent as a protection against stealing
and copying.
- The modification of the cells provides cures for the unfortunate such as the stem cells transplant
in leukemia patients.
- Human donor skin and its derivatives, for example, were originally intended for use in severely
burned patients, patients with chronic wounds or in reconstructive surgery,

- MISUSE: Egg donations: Help the infertility problem: in 2012, The Human Fertilisation and
Embryo Authority allowed the egg donors to be paid a lump sum of £750 for their expenses and
inconvenience.
- This shows that there is a clear governance and regulation on how much the donors are eligible
to get.

- Once discoveries are made, it benefits everyone and why should anyone be angry about it?
- (Poor people) The technology is very expensive and we definitely cannot satisfy everyone’s need
in this world. As we take a baby step in this technology, we can progress and as time pass by,
cells therapies will become more common and cheaper.

- (Ownership) Once the cells have been genetically engineered, they are different from the time
they are extracted so there should definitely be no issues on ownership.
- Selling cells is a good way to make business such as stem cell therapies. It is an ethical business
as those who sign up are provided with the scientific basis of the therapies. Besides that, the
experimental therapies are regulated tightly as well.

- UK’s economy is very dependent on education and research. By having various forms of cells
that are obtained from individuals with different genetic background, it can help the researchers to
discover new drugs and this is very important in pharmacology sector.
- (Playing with God) God gave us the wisdom to make us well through the advancement of health
technology. Where do we get the knowledge to do cell engineering if it’s not from God? So we’re
definitely not intervening with His works, but we’re using His gifts to make our life better.
- Through capitalism which is an economic system based on private ownership for production and
their operation for profit, we have to market our products because the consumers need and want
them. So, this is definitely a mutualism relationship between the companies and the consumers.
