RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Methodology
Research is an art of scientific investigation. It refers to a search for knowledge.
Research methodology is a method to systematically solve the research problem
under study. It is the investigation on a particular topic using a variety of reliable,
scholarly resources. It is examination on a topic from different points of view. The
dictionary definition of research is systematic investigation into and study of
materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. It
increases the pool of knowledge. It is used to establish or confirm facts, reaffirm
the results of previous work, solve new or existing problems, support theorems, or
develop new theoriesor may be an expansion on past work in the field. Research is
not merely paying visits to the local library or making some random clicks on the
internet, it is diving deep in search of the truth. It is going into new directions
which have been least explored. When we talk of research methodology, we not
only talk of the research methods but also consider the logic behind the methods
we use in the context of our research study.

3.1 Research design

It is a sequence of actions planned to be carried out in the process of conducting
research. It is a detailed outline of the action plan how investigation will take
place. It can be called as the “blueprint” of the research. The design of the study
defines whether the study is descriptive, co relational, experimental, quasi-
experimental, time-series research etc. In this study titled, “Adversity Quotient in
relation to Change Readiness of Executives Working in Telecom Sector”,
exploratory research has been done first and then followed the descriptive research
for the latter to 83be more effective. The latter organizes the data and hypotheses
found during the exploratory process. Researchers must spend the necessary time
in exploratory research before moving on to the descriptive research has the former
provides direction to the latter.

3.2Scope of the study

The scope of the study defines the area in which the study has been conducted.
This study has been restricted to the telecom sector in the states of Punjab, Haryana
and Union Territory of Chandigarh. The study covers Network Service Provider
Companies and Vendor Companies. The former are business to customer
companies and the latter are business to business companies. The list of these
companies is presented below.

Data Collection Design:

a) Sources of Data: The correct information is the key to success. Data

information is of two types: primary and secondary data. Primary data is collected
by the researcher or person himself whereas secondary data is collected by the
other but it is used and utilized by the researcher. Data can be classified into two
categories depending upon source utilized. These categories are:

Primary Data –

I have used questionnaire as a primary source for collecting data for my study.

Secondary Data – No secondary data is used in this study.

b) Sampling

The methodology used to sample is random sampling. Random sampling is a way

of selecting a sample of observations from a population in order to make inferences
about the population. Random sampling is also known as probability sampling.
The factor that intended to examine can be applied to and investigated in
population that uses the internet and buys electronic goods. Since there are time
and resource constraint that is why specific population had been approached in
order to generalize the results includes 200 respondents. The questionnaire was
mainly distributed in the three cities Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, but the
major reliance was on the distribution through email and through personal
contacts.

c) Sample Size

It represents how many candidates you have chosen to fill up the questionnaire. I
have chosen around 200 people for filling the questionnaire.

d) Sampling Technique

Questionnaire’s sampling is something that is sent to the candidates who use Airtel
SIM in the Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula region. By questionnaire you can
understand people’s taste & preferences so it is easy to convince.

Analysis Tools and Techniques: Ms Word is used for the study and to analyse the
data. The pie charts, tables and bar graphs are used to show the actual presentation
of the data.

Research design- Research Design is an important and vital part of the research.
Research design is a comprehensive master plan specifying the procedure for
collecting and analyzing of the needed information. Research Design provides an
excellent framework for the research plan of action. The function of research
design is to ensure that the required data is in accordance, Research design is the
“blue print” of the research study.

Research design specifies the methods and procedures for conducting a particular
study. A Research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and
analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose
with economy in procedure. Research design is the framework that has been
created to seek answers to research questions.

Descriptive research design:

It is the design that one simply describes something such as demographic

characteristics of people. The descriptive study is typically concerned with
determining with which something occur or how to variables vary together. A
decretive study requires a clear specification of who, what, when, and how apex of
the research it requires a formulation of more specific of the hypothesis and the
testing.

Research instrument-

Questionnaire

A questionnaire is a research instrument consisting of a series of questions and

other prompt for the purpose of gathering information from respondents. Although
they are often designed for apply statistical analysis on the collected data.

Questionnaire format

In order to create questionnaire, the basis were built by deciding on the main
variables that needed to be investigated.
