Committee - DISEC
Topic – Crisis in Donbas
Country – Finland

PARAGRAPH 1
The Ukraine crisis is a power struggle between factions within
Ukraine. The crisis in Ukraine began on 21 November 2013 when
the president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign the
association agreement with the European Union. The decision
sparked mass protests from proponents of the agreement. In February
2014 Russia occupied the Crimea. This led to a protest, in turn,
precipitated a revolution which led to a war in Donbas.

PARAGRAPH 2
By annexing Crimea, Russia has also raised some of the basic
questions about the conventions of the European order. Russia was
always against the conventions that countries are free to choose their
alliances. But the president is now challenging these conventions.
This is a direct challenge to Europe. Although some countries might
be pleased to accept. By annexing Crimea, Russia has broken the
international law .Russia ruled for 105 years in Finland. Many of the
people were killed in the war for independence. Russia has also
attacked Finland in 1939.Finland chooses to be on the side of Ukraine
as no country’s territorial integrity should be harmed.

PARAGRAPH 3
The delegate of Finland would like to present a few solutions:-

 Countries near the Ukraine like Slovakia, Moldova, etc. need to

increase their border security so that the people can protect from
the conflict.
 All the countries need to support the peacekeeping mission in
the Donbas crises.
