English (Day 2) Week 4

Questions

1. Compare the attitudes of the men of Lake-town, the Master, and the Elvenking to
Thorin’s mission. Who is reasonable? Who is silly? Also consider Bilbo’s attitude and
evaluate how wise is he.
Ans: - The men of Lake-town and the Master were being reasonable because they
supported the dwarves, were trustworthy, and helped the dwarves in their expedition by
giving them a boat and their ponies. They made the dwarves stronger by giving them
food and cared for them. On the other hand, the Elvenking was silly because he was
always suspicious and would not help the dwarves. He was kind but without any
evidence, he put all of the dwarves in different cells each. Bilbo was wise because he
knew what was the only way for the dwarves to escape the Elvenkings palace. He was
also wise enough to take the dwarves to Lake-town where they were treated with
kindness and respectfulness.
2. Does Thorin seem to be changing, as he gets closer and closer to the mountain? How?
Ans: - As he is getting closer and closer to the mountain, Thorin knows that he will
complete his mission this time and becomes more and more determined in getting
revenge from Smaug and get the treasure back. He is becoming nicer and less arrogant.
He is also starting to give Bilbo more respect as he brought the dwarves safely near the
mountain, which was a hard thing to do.

My Fearful Journey

July22nd, 1976

Dear Diary,

It was a scary and long journey. I was tired, hungry and sad. I was all the time wishing that this scary journey
would end quickly but it took a long time to end.

Although it took a long time to end, I am happy that am still even alive like who would have thought that I, Bilbo
Baggins, would have lead a group of Dwarves including Thorin Oaken Shield, Son of Thror and son of Thrain to the
end.

When I went home after getting my share of the gold, started to continue my old life which I always remembered
during the hardship in the journey but this time I was different. At home I felt alone because I was now used to
live with the dwarves all the time so I became alone and depressed. Then I called the dwarves back and now they
live with me. They are like my brothers and my family but now I wish mother was here because I know she had
been proud of me for accomplishing this dangerous mission.

Being used to things I hope that soon I would be invited to another journey by Gandalf so that I become strong
and brave again.

Will be writing soon again.
