1. What is grammar?

Grammar is viewed by the side of the linguistic part, the study of the rules that govern of how a
language’s sentences are formed. On the other hand, viewed by the position of the speakers
Grammar is the capacity of recognizing how a sentence is formed. Due to the fact that all
languages are related until certain point. For instance, English and Spanish, are related in terms of
vocabulary, but the grammar is different, this may lead to English learners to make mistakes by
mixing the grammar of Spanish into the English grammar and vice versa.

2. Why is it important to teach grammar?

Teaching grammar is important, because it seeds the bases for an appropriate learning of English,
there are several methods related to English language grammar, actually, I studied all those
methods in my didactics class, on the class we saw both theoretical and practical examples, most
of those methods are based in learning by heart which applies for EFL (English as a foreign
language) by the reading also explains the methodology used by native speakers to learn their
own language. In this case we are focusing in the EFL students, so we will teach grammar based
on the methods for this kind of students, and as in all the topics related to didactics, we will
create the lessons based on the students, their needs, attitudes and expectations.

3. How can you define deductive grammar teaching?

We can define deductive grammar teaching, by the presentation of the rule and then the
examples, we can say that in this kind of teaching, the students are seated in a classroom looking
to the front, and seeing what a teacher is writing in a board, making the class boring and non-
didactical.

4. How can you define inductive grammar teaching?

On the other hand, inductive is the opposite of deductive grammar, actually on the CCA we use a

inductive method of teaching grammar, by the usage of the task-based learning where the
students are discovering the topic by themselves, obviously with a little help of the professor.
5. How can we teach grammar to young learners?

I think, if we use inductive learning we can create a class that will be dynamical and didactical for
young learners, we can create a syllabus to teach grammar using task-based learning, for example
we can teach grammar and make a CLIL, with another topic of English or even another subject, for
example we can mix the teaching of grammar of present simple with a graphic representation of
their routines at home.
