‘To Whom It May Concern:
| first met Ashlyn Bergethon when she was a bright eighth grade student in my Geometry Honors
class at Great Neck Middle School. Four years later, Ashlyn became an intern for my 2019-20
Algebra T Honors class through Cox High Schoo!’s Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow II program.
During Ashlyn’s internship, I had the opportunity to work with her on a professional level as we
planned, prepped the classroom, graded assignments, and discussed plans for teaching her own math
lessons to the class. She was a very energetic, diligent and motivated intern, who was well received
by the students,
Ashlyn has a number of strengths to offer asa future teacher. She is bright, communicative and very
engaging. During her internship, she quickly and successfully performed tasks such as
preparing/grading assignments, organizing the classroom, evaluating data, and attending a
professional learning committee meeting. Her ideas and involvement in the planning processes were
refreshing and much appreciated. During class time, Ashlyn was also a great help to me, particularly
with the star-of-bell procedures such as attendance, homework check and warm up assistance. She
‘eagerly helped students with their questions, interacted well and gave support where needed.
‘The students thoroughly enjoyed the math lessons that Ashlyn prepared and taught the class, one of
which incorporated a warm up, interactive semester exam review stations and a digital review game.
‘The students were involved, engaged and interacting with each other in a way that clearly made
learning fun. During another lesson, Ashlyn taught the students how to multiply polynomials. After
the warm up, students took notes and worked in groups as Ashlyn modeled math problems at the
board. Towards the end of the class, they played a review game that Ashlyn had prepared. The
lesson highlighted cooperative learning, interactive note-taking and digital integration.
‘Through her internship, Ashlyn clearly demonstrated her ability to effectively and efficiently lead a
classroom. | can confidently recommend Ashlyn for future academic and professional pursuits and
in the field of teaching. If you need any additional information, please contact me at (757) 648-4550
