Reflection on a Lesson Plan Taught
Virginia Teachers for Tomorrow
Intern Name: Ashlyn Bergethon
Lesson Title (Subject/Topic): Monomial x Polynomial, Multiplying Binomials,
and Multiplying Binomials x Trinomials
Cooperating Teacher & School: Mrs. H & Great Neck Middle School
Grade: 8th Grade
1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your lesson?
I spoke to my cooperating teacher about the lesson and day she wanted me to teach. I planned the entire lesson
myself using her worksheets.
2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
It helped make sure I was staying on topic. Also, it made sure I was teaching the students the information they
needed to know for their test.
I got through all steps of my plan. The plan was executed well.
The notes took longer than anticipated. I could have taught a bit faster to have more practice time.
I had all materials needed for my lesson, including technology, worksheets, etc.
6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
I believe the assessment represented the information they learned. It was taken not during class, but by
including multiple lessons on the quiz the students did well.
7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
I feel it was successful! The assessment proved this by having an average of 88%. The majority of questions
missed were from classification, not multiplying polynomials.
8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to its success?
I believe my lesson was very successful. The time I put into planning helped result in a successful lesson. I spent
multiple hours on my planning.
9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I would teach the notes faster to ensure the students had enough practice time individually or in groups.
