Mayflower/First Thanksgiving Facts:


1. MAYFLOWER
 Went from England to America ( Plymouth Rock )
 2-3 month Journey
 Arrived in November 1620
 There was 102 people and many animals all in a small
boat
 The boat was 106 ft long and 25 ft wide ( go out to
hall to demonstrate boat size )
 They left because they did not agree with the king
 Known as the Pilgrims

2. HARD WINTER
 Many died
 Not much food, many got sick, cold, hard work to
build homes
3. Native Americans
 Helped a lot
 Taught the pilgrims how to grow corn and other foods
 They all became friends
4. The First Thanksgiving
 Happened in Fall 1621
 Gave thanks for helping them survive
 Ate lots of food
 There were 140 people at the first Thanksgiving
OBJECTIVES:
SOL Kindergarten Science K.5 c – “The student will investigate
and understand that water flows and has properties that can be
observed and tested. Key concepts include
a) water occurs in different phases;
b) water flows downhill; and
c) some materials float in water, while others sink”
