What is Editing ?

Film and Video editing is a creative and technical process, which we follow to
assemble shots into a coherent sequence. Mostly we follow this postproduction
technique to deduct unwanted portion of the visual and audio to convey the
thoughts properly.

Types of Editing

Continuity editing –

The most adopted style of editing in fiction and non-fiction.

This process allows the editor to make each and every cut smoother and maintain certain
rules to hide the discontinuity of visual.

Cross-Cutting or Parallel Cut –

Action happening at the same time in two different locations. In a cross-cut, the camera
will cut away from one action to another action.

Match cut

When two shots are matched by the action or content. This type of cut is very popular in
Hollywood and we used to see good match cut in Hollywood films regularly.

Jump Cut

This type of edit gives the effect of jumping forwards in time. It is a manipulation of temporal
space using the duration of a single shot, and fracturing the duration to move the audience
ahead.

Offline Editing-

This post production technique we follow during the editing of fiction or

documentary where the real event already documented or captured before.

Online Editing -

This editing process we follow during live shows, Games and in a reality show
where we have multiple camera set up and specific subject to show our audience.

Linear Editing –

This is a very old process of editing where we used to edit on chronological

sequence manner.
Non Liner Editing –

This technique widens the horizon of editing and now all over the world we follow
this system. It provides us the facility to start edit from any where and maximum
freedom to the editor.
