 The study of the daily life in the internet
o Goffmen  thought that sociologist should be concern with the tiny little details
of life
 Sociology should be all about microsociology
 All of your small group interaction
 Need to know what microsociology means
 If we study these things that we don’t think about, they can really teach us
about how social life works, how we function every day in a world made
up of people that we don’t know

recreating our social world

o Focused and unfocused interaction
 We engage in it every day
 When we’re in the presence of others, we don’t talk to them, but we
communicate nonverbally (expressions)
 Focused interaction – we engage into the interaction
o Civil inattention is kind of similar to unfocused interaction, but not exactly the
same thing
o Focused interaction is the direct response to someone else
 Example: seminar class
o If the person does not response or do not respond, they would act like they’ve
never initiated an interaction
o We give expressions (words and facial expression that we use)
