Short artist bio:

Romon is a Sydney based creative who constantly seeks to push the boundaries of genres
within contemporary photography not only through experimenting and collaborating with
fellow creatives, but also through self exploration and examination. These methods often
result in new forms of strange yet alluring and unparalleled works of art. As his work
progresses, the barriers between subjects and objects become more permeable and fluid.
The focus then, is not the figure in the image, but how the interaction of the body with their
surrounding environment can highlight a particular concept or evoke certain emotions.

Series 1: Alive with closed eyes

This series was based in the concept of dark romance, a longing for connection and the
beauty within mystery. The juxtaposition between the figures and their surrounding
environment aim to highlight the connection established within different settings.
Handmade garments were used to bring forth the ideas of unity, but also to add texture,
transparency and flow to the series.
Series 2: Blood Red
It is only within the recent years that I truly began to accept my culture and identity.
This body of work explores three key concepts that have had significantly influenced in my
life over the past year. It has been a process through not only thought, but also physical
handmade textiles experimentation to assist in the realisation of these concepts.
The overarching conceptual framework is based on culture and identity. Ideas alluding to
restriction, confinement, breaking boundaries and seeking passion are also present within
this concept.
Masculinity and the exploration of gender and emotional expression also plays a large role
within the body of work, blurring the lines between conservative and traditional views on
aspects of gender behaviours and what is considered ‘normal’.
Last but not least, the intimate, beautiful yet strange nature of love. What one earth is love?
The journey to understanding the structure of such a complex human experience is one that
is continuous and with no end.
I hope that the concepts speak / resonate / connect with you however; I also hope that you
seek your own interpretation of these images and what they mean to you, how they make
you feel.

Series 3: Self
Self is an ongoing series where I explore personal ideas and concepts through experimental
self-portraiture and post production methods. Often the ideas come as minor thoughts that
are then developed through sketches, fabric manipulation and prop usage. The overarching
theme of my personal work usually revolves around nostalgia, aspirations and higher spirits.
