Human Resource Development (HRD) is the framework for helping employees develop their
personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities. Human Resource Development
includes such opportunities as employee training, employee career development, performance
management and development, coaching, mentoring, succession planning, key employee
identification, tuition assistance, and organization development. Human Resource
Development (HRD) is the integrated use of training, organizational development, and career
development efforts to improve individual, group, and organizational effectiveness.
Career Development
Career Development is the lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure, and
transitions in order to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future.
Career Development knowledge, skills, and experience supports your ability to create a
meaningful life. In educational development, career development provides a person, often a
student, focus for selecting a carrier or subject(s) to undertake in the future. Often educational
institutions provide career counselors to assist students with their educational development.
Succession development
Succession development is the process of identifying key positions within a company and
determining how those positions might be filled in the event that the current employees leave,
either voluntarily or involuntarily, or retire. While not a perfect science, companies that take
steps to engage in succession development can minimize the chances that they will be left
vulnerable when a key position is vacated. Succession planning, as the name suggests,
involves planning for movement into higher-level positions that may become vacant. The
chief executive officer position, the top position within a company, is generally the first to be
considered, but other high-level leadership positions may be on the list as well. In addition,
certain skilled positions or positions that are hard to replace may be listed as areas where
succession development is needed.
Management development
Management development is the process by which managers learn and improve their
management skills. Aspect of organizational development that covers recruitment and
assessment of executive level employees and training them in leadership to equip them for
higher positions. This process generally includes development of cognitive (thinking, idea
generation, and decision making), behavioral (choosing appropriate attitudes and values), and
environmental (suiting management style to the situation) skills. Management development is
the structured process by which managers enhance their skills, competencies and/or
knowledge, via formal or informal learning methods, to the benefit of both individual and
organisational performance.
Organizational Development
Business development
Business development (BD) comprises a number of tasks and processes generally aiming at
developing and implementing growth opportunities within and between organizations. It is a
subset of the fields of business, commerce and organizational theory. Business development
is the creation of long-term value for an organization from customers, markets, and
relationships.
