1. Find the gradient of function (x,y,z) = x2y3z4.

2. Find the divergence of vector 𝑣⃗ = 𝑥 2 𝑖̂ + 3𝑥𝑧 2 𝑗̂ − 2𝑥𝑧𝑘̂ .
3. Determine ∇ × (∇ × 𝐵 ⃗⃗ ) where 𝐵
⃗⃗ is the magnetic field.
4. Following are the two vectors, 𝐴⃗ = 𝑥𝑦 𝑖̂ + 2𝑦𝑧 𝑗̂ + 3𝑥𝑧 𝑘̂ and 𝐵 ⃗⃗ = 𝑦 2 𝑖̂ + (2𝑥𝑦 + 𝑧 2 ) 𝑗̂ +
2𝑦𝑧 𝑘̂ . Find out which one represent an electric field.
5. Suppose there is a circular ring of radius R and carries a uniform line charge density .
Calculate both potential and electric field at a distance z directly above the center of the ring.
Also show that electric field shows the maximum value for z = R/2.
6. An electrostatic potential is given by  = 0(x2 + y2 + z2) where 0 is the constant. Find the
charge density which has created this potential.
7. A solid sphere of radius R carries a uniform volume charge density . Calculate the electric
field inside the sphere at a distance r from its center.
8. Suppose there is a sphere of radius a and it has volume charge density  (𝑟) = 𝜌0 . (𝑎/𝑟) for
0 < r < a and (r) = 0 for r > a. Find the total charge contained in the sphere. Find the electric
field both outside and inside the sphere. Find the total electrostatic energy of the system.
