This photograph shows a coffee cafetiere, that has been left out and not finished.

I chose to
photograph this as it links into the topic of making a cup of tea, and the cafetiere reflected
the enclosed and messy tone that I wanted to produce. An element that is noticeable and
that I would change in the future is the reflection of the flash on the subject, as it makes the
photograph seem less simplistic and makes it obvious to the audience that I was
intentionally using flash to create a specific tone. The image itself is also very dark, which
makes it more difficult to look at the details in the image, although I wanted to create an
enclosed tone, the darkness of this photograph isn’t very successful, and in the future I
would want to make the whole image lighter. I didn’t use a specific compositional techniques
in this image, as for this shoot I was specifically focusing on the post production techniques,
despite the subject of this photograph not being tea I still chose to stain the whole image with
tea, as it reinforced the image as something that isn’t looked after, and gives it a rougher
edge, the image not being looked after also reflects the people in the audience who feel in
the same position as Clare Gallagher, the one person who seems to notice the mess around
the house whilst everyone else ignores it. Although this photograph wasn’t the most
successful, it highlighted moments after a routine, and the aftermath of a routine
successfully, as it shows a used cafetiere that has just been left, and makes the audience
question the events that led up to making the coffee and after.
