TECHNIQUE TO TEACH PRONUNCIATION: HOMOGRAPHS AND

HOMOPHONES

 HOMOPHONES: are words that sound alike and have different

meanings, but have different spellings.

 HOMOGRAPHS are words that are spelled the same but have different
meanings.

Before carrying out the activity, I explained that they were homophones and
homographs and how some of them were pronounced so that they had an idea
of how to develop the activity successfully.

The activity that I decided to do to teach this technique is a snake game which
had different questions.
What the students had to do is make groups of 4 students and each group was
given some counters, some dices and a board, this board contained some
questions with a missing homophony and the students when they dropped the
die fell into one of these questions, they had to complete the sentence and at
the end of the game tell me which were the correct homophones for each
phrase.
