Statement of the Problem

The research shall deal with the determination of the possibility of bamboo ashes, bignay
pulp and jute as alternative tile grout. The characteristics of the produced tile grout shall also be
determined and compared. Characteristics that shall be determined include the products’ color,
density, texture, durability and porosity. Commercial tile will be used as the controlled set-up
while the set-ups with bamboo ashes, bignay sap and jute as alternative tile grout shall be the
experimental group.

The following questions shall be answered at the end of the investigations.

a. What are the characteristics of the controlled group?

b. What are the characteristics of the experimental groups?

c.  Is there a significant difference on the characteristics of all the groups?

Hypothesis

This study was guided by the following hypothesis:

1. There is no significant difference on the characteristics of all groups in terms of color,

density, texture, durability, and porosity
Statement of the Problem

The main objective of the study is to investigate the possibility of bamboo

(Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay (Antidesma bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus) as
alternative tile grout making. Specifically, it aims to:
A. Test the physical properties of the produced tile grout:
I. Impact Strength
II. Porosity
III. Durability
B. Compare the tile grout made of bamboo (Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay
(Antidesma bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus) to commercially available one such
as regular cement grout.

Hypothesis

This study was guided by the following hypothesis:

1. Bamboo (Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay (Antidesma bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus) are
possible as an alternative tile grout.
2. Bamboo (Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay (Antidesma bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus) are
not possible as an alternative tile grout.
CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Building commercial and residential infrastructures in our country is fast growing. One of

the building materials is ceramic tile that is used as floorings in bathrooms, dining area, function

halls, etc. To fill the gaps between the ceramic tiles, must use a tile grout to avoid individual

crack between each tile.

Tile grout is an important part of flooring as not only does it keep tiles in place, it also

seals the flooring to avoid leakage. Having clean grout and tiles is crucial in maintaining a

welcoming and healthy environment in all commercial spaces.

There are so many brands of tile grout today. Some contains a kind of low resistant to

stains, cracks, chemicals, harsh weather conditions, and climate changes. This study aims to

develop an organic tile grout from the bamboo (Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay (Antidesma

bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus). The strength of the bamboo (Bambusoideae) ashes, bignay

(Antidesma bunius) sap and jute (Corchorus) as alternative grout makes it perfect for any tile job,

indoors or outdoors. The stain, crack and chemical-resistant properties make it suitable for areas

with high traffic. The resistance to weather and climate changes make it ideal for areas where it

will be subjected to harsh weather conditions or excessive amounts of humidity or severe cold.

Some commercial grout is a bit expensive than this organic alternative tile grout. But this

organic alternative tile grout is affordable and not only functional, it has great decorative

properties as well. Its durability and beauty make it the right choice regardless of where you plan
to use it. you can find organic alternative grout in a variety of colors, textures, and finishes to

give tile projects a unique appearance that will complement any area, indoors or out.

Tile grout, especially the commercial ones are expensive. That is why, by making

cheaper, useful and an organic plant as a replacement for commercial tile grout will surely

benefits the environment and the human beings. In conducting this study, is to know what are the

other things that can use to make a tile grout. Aiming that it will come up with a product that is

affordable and at the same time, a product that is useful, durable and affordable. Wanted to make

useful objects out of organic things.
