Short introduction to royalties:
Performance royalties:
Are fees paid to artists when their music is performed publicly.
Eg: when an artist sings at a concert, he is given a ‘share’(as in royalty percentage) of the profit.
Mechanical royalties:
Are fees paid to songwriters each time a copy of their song is reproduced.
Eg: when the music is published on a website that pays music, each times it is purchased, an amount
of the fee goes to the songwriter.
Sellers royalties:
Are fees paid to owners of music products(in our case), that can be companies that distribute and
commercialize loops and samples, which in turn require an amount of fee for the their use based on
a percentage of the profit. Some companies give up on their rights when the loops are purchased
from their platform for a certain price; others offer them for free and where is the case (if the music
‘takes off’), require you to return a percentage of the profit based on a negotiation.
Other companies can offer free samples for free usage.
*For more royalty information please search for the code of conduct used in your country or in the
country you are living.
