BACKGROUND
OF MUSIC
MUSIC
- Is a pattern of sounds produced by people
singing or playing instruments. To many
people and culture, music has become an
important part of daily living
Pre-historic Music
Pre-historic music was theorized
based on discovered artifacts or tools,
instruments, and other objects made
by human beings, especially those
that came from caves.
Music of Egypt
The gods of Egypt are very well-known
for their love of music. The bible shows
that music is part of Egyptian culture. In the
book of Daniel Chapter 3 verse 5, musical
instruments were used to worship the king.
Music of Ancient Greece
The Greeks love music. It is an important part
of their culture. Music is one of their life’s main
ingredients. Musicians and singers played a
prominent role in Greek theater. Choruses are
performed to entertain, celebrate, and for spiritual
ceremonies.
The Middle Ages
In 476 A.D to 1400 A.D (medieval era), the
catholic church used chanting (words or group of
words that is repeated over and over). This is the
time when Western music was started to be seen as
an art form with the advances in musical notation.
The Renaissance Age
The Renaissance music existed in 1400 A.D . It
is focused on secular themes. The importance of
music continued to increase during this age,
musicians worked for the church, courts, and
towns.
The Baroque
The Baroque music is a style of European
music that was written in the 18th Century (1600
A.D. to 1750 A.D.) . It been when the first
operas were written. German Baroque
composers write for small ensembles with
stringed instruments, brass, and woodwinds.
Classical
The Classical era ( 1750 to 1830 A.D. ) is
inspiring because of its art and philosophy of
Greece and Rome. It is a music that is serious,
disciplined, organized, and of lasting value. It is
full of expression but lighter, clearer, and simple.
Romantic
Romantic music came in 1820 A.D. to 1900
A.D. This kind of music is more expressive in
nature. It touched the heart (feelings and emotions
of a human being). The expressive qualities of thie
music became prevalent inspired by literature,
history, nature, and love itself.
Indian Classical
One of the oldest traditional music in the
world. Their dance shows the nations
culture with the flutes with seven holes.
They also use different types of stringed
instruments and drums.
Chinese Classical
Chinese classical music is a traditional art
or court music of china. Its uniqueness is seen
in its notation as well as musical tuning and
pitch, musical instruments, and styles of
music genres.
20th Century Music
The music in the 20th century became highly
technical. People listen to radio, phonographs, and
music can be recorded. Composers make new rhythms,
styles, and sounds – Igor Stravinsky, Arnold
Schoenberg, and John Cage were all 20th century music
composers. The sound recording system was invented
where music can be replayed and edited. Composition
of music became electronic.
Rock Music
Rock music is a genre of popular music. It is the
music of the young people. It was originated from
the 1950s rock and roll, rockabilly blues, and
country music. It began in the 1960s. Its sound
includes electric guitars, acoustic guitars, electric
bass guitars, drums, key boards, (organ and piano);
analog synthesizers (1970s), and digital computers
(1990s).
