Answer the following questions based on the reading material given to you last time.
Minimum of 3 sentences and maximum of 7 sentences. Use Microsoft Word in
accomplishing this activity then save it as PDF.
1. What is IoT?
IoT or Internet of Things is a system of systems. This means that all the electronic
devices such as smartphones and sensors are connected to each other in a local
or specific area, forming a system. These systems will connect with each other,
forming a bigger network system. These devices are connected by the internet
that will collect and share data. IoT are made to connect and add a level of digital
intelligence to the devices that will benefit the humankind.

2. How does IoT work?

IoT starts in the “T” or things in the IoT that are mostly active sensing devices and
actuators which collects the data and perform ground-level processing, best
examples of this are the Temperature sensors at home and the cameras in the
highways that is installed by the government. The next part of IoT are the gateways or
Local processing nodes. These gateways connect the end nodes to the network or
cloud. This network, clouds, or IoT platform integrates the data from many devices
and applies analytics to share the most valuable data, with applications that address
industry specific needs.

3. How is the stored and analyzed data used in:

a. Business:
The stored and analyzed data are used by almost all companies in the world, to
further improve their service and products. Best example for this are Automobile
companies, this companies uses it to create and manage applications that will solve a
specific issues It uses data gathered from different cars and uses continuous
engineering application that tracks thousands of cars, to look for other ways to improve
the design and manufacturing process of cars.
.
b. Government:
The government uses IoT in order to improve their service to the citizens and keep
them safe. They use the stored and analyzed data to further know what their citizens
likes and what are their needs. Just like in the city of Manila, Isko puts a large device
near the city hall that will give the public free access to the internet. Not all people can
see it but they can actually see and use the stored and analyzed data from this devices
to further know their students and use this to change or improve their service. Other
government offices also have sensors to ensure its security.
c. Cities:
Cities are generating tremendous amount of data. Coupled with insights gained
from analytics, this data is used to ensure that water is clean, transportation is reliable,
and our community is safe. One example is the use of tap water, it’s basic and essential
but increasingly scares. With the use of data, cities can tell how much water is being
used where and when, so we can accurately predict future needs and make plans to
continue give service. Here in the Philippines, some cities have embedded censors in
their most busy bridge. These sensors will not just harness electricity but will also help
the city officials know how many cars passes in that bridge, so they can make it stronger
and safer.
4. What is Prototyping?
A prototype is a working model that doesn’t have all required features and doesn’t
have all the functionality of the final system. Prototype is done by prototyping,
prototyping is low-cost, low-risk way of developing, testing, and improving the idea
before producing a product. You will design your product, review it in a real-life
scenario and work out on how to improve it, and you will do it all over again until
you are hundred percent sure that it will work. It saves innovators and companies,
time and money, for this way they will sure that they only produce the best version
of their product.

5. What is Automation?
Automation is a smart device that lets you combine multiple tasks into single
automated action. Automation is like combining all remote controls in one, that
makes a smart device that will helps you control all devices around you.
Automation increases our productivity, improve the quality of our products, and
reduces labor cost to employers while ensuring the safety of their employees.

6. What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence are devices that is incorporated with human-like intelligence
to perform tasks as we do. This intelligence was built using complex algorithms
and mathematical functions. AI are usually used in our smartphones, cars, social
media feeds, and many aspects of our daily life. IA provides machines with the
capability to adapt, reason, and provide a solution to a specific problem. AI can be
categorized into two broad parts. The first part is weak AI, which focuses solely in
one specific task like Siri in your Iphone and Alexa. The second part is the strong
AI, which are mostly seen in Sci-fi movies robots that are self-aware and can
potentially feel emotions.
7. What is Machine Learning?
Machine learning is a wide range of study but in a sentence, machine learning is
the ability of the computer to analyze information and then create new rules so
instead of humans doing all the programing and writing every single line code, we
can now point a computer in a right direction and it can continue on a path self-
improvement. This just not apply to computer code, companies like IBM are using
machine learning to supplement their design efforts. Machine learning is giving
the computer the ability to learn and create on its own. Best examples of machine
learnings are self-driving car like Tesla, Voice assistants in our smartphones like
Siri, Alexa, and google assistant, and IBM Watson that helps us to dig through vast
libraries of complicated information in an instant.

8. What is the difference between White and Black Hat Hackers?

At the beginning of the digital age, hackers were enthusiasts probing to see what
was possible with the emerging technologies. In todays age there are two different
types of hacker, these hackers were classified depending to their intensions.
White hackers are mainly security researchers and penetration testers. These
people have a job to counter the other hackers, their actions are often sanctioned
by the company that pays them for their services. Some white hat hackers
discover tons of massive security holes that could have affected the company and
a lot of people if they weren’t found. Meanwhile there’s black hat hackers which
are the people that hacks emails or websites without any permission. They are the
one that profits at someone expense or even just cause damage to a website
service business or even an individual. When passwords or credit cards were
stolen and put up on sale online that’s a black hat hacker doing.
9. Hoes does VPN work?
Every country in the world has an ISP, which are the one that provides internet
with the computer This ISP serves as a gateway that allows us to access all the
servers that you want to. Other countries government limits its people what
websites they can only have access to, that is where VPN works. Through VPN
connection your computer, tablet, and even your smartphone will be able to
securely connect with others in the internet, as if they were a part of the same
private network. VPN allows you to have access to a content that is geographically
restricted, an access to content that is censored in a country you are living in, and
an ability to secure data you are transferring.

10. In which real-life situations can we see IoT? Cite two examples.
IoT aren’t made to be visible to us , they are designed to be as compact as
possible in order for us not to notice, to lessen its cost, and for aesthetic
purposes. For me after answering the first 9 questions I realized that our
community is covered with IoT. Best example is the Comfort room at the North
building that has a sensor that controls when the lights will turn on or off. At a pet
shop near us their entrance has a senor that will automatically activate their
speaker that will immediately play a pre-recorded greeting. They also sell this
amazing device that when your pet go near it, it will automatically release food for
your pet to enjoy.
