English 101 Honors

20 August 2019

Personal Goals Plan

Goal #1: My first goal is to make it into the Nevada All State Orchestra in April of 2020.

Task #1: Practice scales every single day. I am going to use a tuner and a metronome

and slowly go over one scale each day until my audition, which is in January, in order to set

up my intonation and my rhythm. The foundations will be important as I progress to higher

level music.

Task #2: Practice the honor orchestra excerpts. Making it into the Nevada Honor

Orchestra is a prerequisite to be able to audition for all state. When I get the audition excerpts

in early September, I will practice them every day until my audition in October, first starting

slow and then using a metronome to bring the excerpts up to speed.

Task #3: After making it into honor orchestra, I will practice the all state excerpts,

which come out in November, every day until the audition in January, following the same

method of practicing slowly at first to get the right fingerings and then bringing the excerpts

up to speed with a metronome.

Task #4: I will consult my private violin teacher about the excerpts in early January to

get her input on the excerpts and what I can do to fine tune and improve my audition

technically and emotionally. This will add the finishing touch right before my audition.

Task #5: The morning of the audition I will eat a balanced breakfast with a lot of slow

burning carbohydrates in order to keep up my stamina during the long audition. I will also

listen to the audition excerpts in order to get my mind in the right place. I will not practice

until my warm up in the audition room so that I don’t tire my fingers out.

Goal #2: My second goal is to achieve straight As for all of this year and maintain my

valedictorian status so that I can graduate as valedictorian in May of 2020.

Task #1: I will review what I learned in each class each day after school for about

fifteen minutes for each class. This will allow me to review all of the important content so

that the information will stick better with me and it will be easier for me to remember during

tests.

Task #2: I will stay on top of my homework assignments throughout the school year

by starting homework the day it is assigned. This will help me keep in track of the material,

as it will be freshly reviewed in my brain, and it will result in better quality work which will

help my formative grade category.

Task #3: I will spend two hours a day studying for semester exams for the two weeks

preceding them in order to get As on all of them. Exams make up a large portion of the

overall semester grade, so it is important to do well on them. Studying is essential to doing

well on them.

Task #4: I will not go out with friends or do anything unnecessary the night before

unit tests. Unit tests can ruin a grade, so it is important to spend the night before preparing

instead of partying.

Task #5: I will not text or fall asleep in class at all throughout the entire school year.

Doing so will lose me participation points and distract me from learning the information I

need to succeed and get an A.

Goal #3: My third goal is to live life without stress and minimize the amount of time that I

feel drained and tired.

3

Task #1:Get at least seven hours of sleep every night, regardless of whether it is a

school night or not. I will go to bed every night at ten o clock with the goal of waking up at

six in the morning. This can vary based on my schedule and can be longer during the

weekends, but my goal will be at least seven hours. Sleep is important to maintaining a

healthy and focused mind.

Task #2: I will not procrastinate. I will start homework assignments the day they are

do and make sure to have them finished a day before they are do so that I do not have to do

them the night before. This means I will not have to stay up late the night before, and it

means I can go to bed early.

Task #3: I will enroll in a yoga class and take it twice a week. This will teach me how

to breathe and stretch which will help me relax while I am taking the classes. I can also apply

the things I learn in class to outside of class, such as doing breathing exercises before bed or

during times when I feel stressed.

Task #4: I will not drink a glass of water before bed. Drinking water before bed can

cause me to wake up at night to go to the bathroom, and I do not want my sleep to be

disturbed. The goal will be not to get out of bed at all during the night.

Task #5: I will take a warm shower every night before bed. There have been studies

proving that taking a warm shower before bed helps to soothe and relax, as well as fall asleep

more quickly and more easily.

Goal #4: My fourth goal is to maintain a healthier lifestyle by building muscle and adopting a

new diet.
4

Task #1: I will participate in some sort of cardio exercise every other day for half an

hour. This will most likely be running on a treadmill at the gym, but it can also be running

outside, fast walking, or climbing stairs.

Task #2: I will do some kind of strength training two to three times a week at the

gym. This can be leg machines or lifting arm weights.

Task #3: I will cut out all processed sugars. There is no time limit on this because it is

something I want to keep up for the rest of my life. I can have cheat days, but for six days a

week I will only eat natural sugars such as fruit.

Task #4: I will create a meal plan for myself at the beginning of every week so that it

is easier for me to eat more healthy. This meal plan will include a breakfast before school that

will keep me satiated until lunch. It will also include a healthy lunch that is still easy to pack

and carry around.

Task #5: I will walk ten thousand steps a day. I will actively make the effort to walk

whenever I can, such as using the stairs instead of the elevator. I can track my steps by using

the health app I have on my phone.

Goal #5: My fifth goal is to get into a college that I want to go to by the end of my senior

year.

Task #1: Research three colleges a day for about a month to understand what different

colleges are out there and find one that is right for me.

Task #2: Visit three colleges that I am interested by November in order to get a feel

for the schools and evaluate whether they match what I want. While I am at the school, I will

talk to admissions counselors and professors so that I can learn more about the different

educational departments and offerings at the school.

5

Task #3: I will film a supplemental video of me playing the violin to include on my

applications. I will need to get this done by December if I plan to apply in January. I will

practice the piece I want to play and book a room and a pianist in order to get a professional

recording.

Task #4: I will write a unique and well written essay for my applications. I will start

brainstorming immediately, and I will start the writing process in September. I will make

several drafts of the essays and ask teachers and the college counselor at the school to edit

them. I will have a final draft done by the end of December.

Task #5: I will apply to at least five schools in January, making sure to have

some safety schools in case the ones I want do not accept me. I will make sure to have

teacher recommendations and test scores that I need on my applications.
