Summary: Chapter 1 Chapter 1 starts saying that Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer found gold some robbers hid in a cave and it made them rich. They took six thousand dollars each and gave it to Judge Thatcher, for safe keeping. Then, the Widow Douglas and her sister Miss Watson took him with them and tried to teach him manners, but it didn’t go very well. When he got tired of it, he ran away but then, Tom told him he was making a band of robbers and that he could be part of it if he returned home and acted respectably, so Huck returned. After Huck returned, the Widow kept trying to teach him how to behave, but the efforts were in vain. The Widow tried to tech him about Moses but when he realized he was dead he lost interest. Then, the Widow told him about heaven and hell, and Huck said that he preferred to go to hell because it was easier than going to heaven. One night, after dinner, Huck went to bed feeling very lonely. Then, he started hearing the sounds of the night and he heard a ‘me-yow! me-yow!’ and he meowed back. He scrambled out of the window and there was Tom waiting for him.
