Part I. Identifying Areas of Strength and Improvement
Based on the categories of the InTASC Standards:
A. Identify your greatest teaching strengths.
B. Identify areas of your professional practice you would like to improve.
C. Explain how you plan to work on these area(s).

A draft of the Individual Growth Plan is developed by the student for discussion at the Final Conference for
First Placement. After reviewing the cumulative ratings on the Student Teaching Evaluation Instrument and
receiving verbal input from both the Cooperating Teacher and College Supervisor, the Student Teacher will
prepare a final draft of bullets A and B in each category. This plan is shared by Student Teacher with the
Cooperating Teacher of second placement, so that bullet C can be completed and entire plan reviewed at the
Initial Triad Conference of second placement. Finalized Individual Growth Plan will be discussed at the
initial triad meeting of the second 9-week placement, then posted to eLearn after consultation and possible
revision. Timely reflection on and progress toward planned goals also can be documented in the Weekly
Reflections.

Category1 The Learner and Learning Category 2 Content Knowledge

A. I think that I have done a nice job at creating
lessons that benefit the students. I have planned
collaboratively with teachers to create
instruction based on the student’s needs. I
believe a strength of mine is being able to find
different approaches to teaching that adds a
creative aspect to a lesson. I make sure that the
students are doing hands on activities that gets
them working with partners, individually, and or
in groups.
B. I think that I need to be better with time
management skills. This meaning, that I need to
focus on what should get done and what the
students need more of, rather than following a
plan. Plans are necessary but sometimes as a
teacher you need to focus on what is more
important rather than following a strict
guideline. I sometimes catch myself rushing
through a lesson just so I can fit it all in within a
short chunk of time.
A. I think my greatest understanding of the
content happens when I create a lesson that
provides a visual representation of the
content. For myself, just being taught from
just words and or a pen or paper is not
beneficial. If I am to teach students of all
needs, visuals need to be incorporated one
way or another.
B. In order to improve I believe that I need to
get out of my comfort zone more. I think
that sometimes I teach things in a way that
is beneficial for me. With that being said, I
need to plan lessons that may make me have
to research a little bit or take time to
understand more about a topic. I am one
who sometimes just goes into a lesson with
no plan. Therefore, sometimes I think I am
repeating myself or I’ll look back and wish I
would have said something different.

C. In the next placement, I am going to find

C.Moving forward, I am going to not think about lessons that are creative and well thought
how many minutes I have to teach something but out. I am going to find effective lessons that
 instead think about the quality of how well I
used the time that I had. I am going to just be in
the moment and focus on the content rather than
the time.
Category 3 Instructional Practice
A. A strength in this category would be that
I am good at connecting multiple topics
within one. For example, in a history
lesson for language arts, I was able to go
back and connect one story to another
story that we had already read. This way
the students don’t always forget previous
things that have been learned and can
always find similarities between them.
B. My weakness is that I don’t think about
my end goal enough when I am teaching.
I tend to just tell myself what I am going
to do rather than think about why I am
doing this and what I am hoping the end
goal for the students is.
C. For every lesson, I am going to think of a
goal and write it down. That way, at the
end of the day I can check off and see if
the students and myself were able to
accomplish that goal.

Category 4 Professional Responsibility
A. I think that in a professional stand point, I
am able to appropriately speak and act in a
responsible way. I talk to the students and
staff in a friendly, confident, and
professional way. I am able to speak up
when I need to but I also know when to sit
back and let things go.
B. I think that I could be less hesitant to ask
questions. As a professional I need to be
more confident when asking what I need to
do better. Questions are important to ask in
order to clarify something that I do not
know. I avoid questions so that it doesn’t
look like I don’t know what is going on.
C. I will be sure to ask questions often when I
do not understand something. In this next
placement I will ask questions prior to
giving a lesson or starting the day before it
is too late. I will try and be more confident
in myself and hold back less.
