Parts Information
Demands made on hitches are getting higher - larger tractors, more power and faster driving
speeds! If you think e.g. of road traffic with speeds up to 50 km/h, the material quality used is a
critical factor. In addition proper implement operations are important to avoid additional stress
and increased wear.
Genuine hitches offer greatest reliability and are made from high-quality material complying
with the requirements of John Deere specifications. For transport operations - especially with
heavy trailers of different drawbar heights - a great variety of fixed, height adjustable, manually
or automatically operated hitch versions is available.
This hitch guide provides you with an overview of all offered genuine John Deere hitch
solutions. For easy identification of the right solution for each implement situation, please
consult the below summary of the static load capacity of high and low position hitches.

High position hitches
Wagon hitches: Manual and automatic
Wagon hitches are quite popular and used very often. Two different versions are available from
John Deere: A two position wagon hitch with pin bearing (figure 1) and a height-adjustable wagon
hitch version with lift bearing for 4 or 9 position rails (figure 2 and 3).

The current lift bearing wagon hitches - available from 6020 Series tractors - feature enhanced
sliding characteristics because of the longer hitch pivot with two bearings, a more ergonomic
adjustment as well as a closed and greased adjustment mechanism. The adjustment
mechanism keeps the dirt out. Additionally, a grease nipple is mounted. Both features ensure
an easy adjustment over years - for maximum reliability.
TIP!
Who hasn’t had the problem? Changing the
implement from trailer to three-point hitch in the field
and not knowing where to put the upper trailer hitch.
John Deere offers the solution - the hitch holder for the
upper wagon hitch. The holder is a convenient solution
that can easily be mounted within minutes onto all
kinds of base and front weights with coupling recess.
The wagon hitch can easily be affixed and is stored in
a convenient height you can reach without stooping.
The holder is adjusted with two fixing screws that again
can be adjusted in two widths depending on the weight
the holder has been mounted onto.

Low position hitches
Low position hitches gained more importance within the past years. Optimizing the weight
distribution between the rear and front axle, these hitches have a positive impact on the
tractor performance. The advantage - the enhanced front axle load improves traction and
eases drive-off.
TIP!
Easy storage of the ball type or piton fix slider in the
rail by the use of a drawbar! (see photo)
4
Pick-up hitch
The John Deere pick-up hitch makes one-man
hitching possible with excellent visibility.
The hitch can be hydraulically adjusted in length
and height for coupling trailers or trailed
implements, even under difficult working conditions
like uneven ground or very low placed trailers.
Drawbar
Swinging drawbars are used to pull drawn equipment of all types,
particularly PTO-driven implements. The location of the drawbar
hitch point results in an increased load of the rear and a slightly
reduced load on the front axle. In addition, the drawbar features a
variable swinging range as well as a lengthwise adjustment.
Drawbars can be combined easily with a wagon hitch or a pick-up
hitch and offer more flexibility with different implements. When a
pick-up hitch needs to be used, the drawbar can easily be stored
in a bracket located on the frame.

Tips & Tricks:
Heavy duty working conditions, enhanced tractor performance and increased driving speeds
put increased stress on hitches. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the hitches on a
regular basis to prevent wear!
9 Lubricate jaw of wagon hitch (picture 1). To make sure that hitch is thoroughly greased,
turn jaw 180° when greasing.
9 Pick-up hitch: Lubricate and check torques of attaching bolts of the pick-up hitch
(picture 2: see A and B).
Picture 1 Picture 2
9 Check gap dimension between the turnable and the rigid part
of the wagon hitch - it should be not more than 3 mm
(valid for manual and automatic wagon hitch)
