Why Purchase Genuine Komatsu Undercarriage?
• Lowest Cost Per Hour: While not the cheapest UC product
Lower range, an OEM quality product with superior hardness depth
Cost Per which contributes to extended wear life and safety benefits will
result in lower cost per hour
Hour
• Safety Benefits: Superior wear life results in less change outs
which results in less safety risk. With non genuine UC, the safety
Safety risk also becomes higher
Benefits • Reduced Down time: High performing genuine UC, engineered
to the highest standards can limit the risk of unplanned down time
• Superior Hardness Depth: Genuine UC is engineered to the
Reduced Down highest standards resulting in increased wear life
Time • OEM Quality Product: Genuine UC is Komatsu Designed &
Komatsu Manufactured.

Total Cost per hour of UC components
• Advantages:
• Explains the wear lifetime differences vs competition - Quality
• Overall costs involved for the lifetime of a machine - Price
• How to keep track?
• Costs of UC components and the SMR when they were changed
• You can simulate costs and SMR on future UC components change
• When the customer knows hows long they will keep the machine, you can divide the total cost by the
estimated SMR
• This will provide a cost per hour

Komatsu Products – Key Wear Parts

**Tip: For PLUS, track life is

determined by Link elongation and
not Bushing

**Tip: Sprocket should be changed

at the same time of the TLA

**Tip: Track Rollers can be

swapped as long as you swap the
same type (i.e. DF with DF & SF
with SF

• Plan on atleast 30 minutes for an inspection
• Visual WAI
• Loose pins & shoe bolts
• Cracked or chipped links
• Cracked or damaged shoe plates
• Leaks from pins and rollers

Inspections doing inspections when doing inspections
• Track Tension – Use a straight bar or piece of wood and place in between the first carrier roller and the idler
• For most mid sized models, the tolerance is 2-3 cm.

• Hot Pin check (if heat gun is available) – to check for oil leakage from the pins
• Link Pitch Extension – can usually measure the 4 links in between top central carrier rollers for best results
• Bushings – Measure 2 -3 bushings for best results. Can also feel ‘roundness’ with your hand to get an idea
• Link Height – Don’t forget to check for cracked links
• Shoe grouser height – Don’t forget to check for cracked shoe plates
• Idler – Best to measure twice for consistent results
• Carrier Rollers – Don’t forget to check for oil leaks
• Track Rollers – Remember that Track rollers can be swapped (SF with SF and DF with DF only) to increase lifetime
• Sprocket – always check visually. The sharper the tips of the sprocket are, the more they are worn
• Record operator and jobsite information (application, use of machine, method of driving, etc)
• Provide feedback/followup for the customer – Don’t make them wait

Not enough time to measure everything? Check the link assy and
the sprocket
