WIP Portfolio
Fashion Editorial?

Nostalgia is potent and intoxicating. It’s one of my running themes of my practice. Through this
portfolio, I’ve worked on series of images that seem as documentary photography but with a
subtle fashion element to it. Fashion has always been a huge influence on me, it forms us of who
we are and how we are portrayed. The images are less look-book, more storyboard.

I’m fuelled by my own curiosity to people and their culture. The images are manifestations of
my own view of the world. As I grew up in both Nepal and UK, I’m fuelled by my own experi-
ence of seeing which is in this peculiar mix of both eastern and western culture. I think that this
really informed the selection of images and how they were photographed.

Each image tell their own story, they even work well as a group. The nods towards Nepalese
street style, such as the girl wearing traditional Nepalese kurtha with a more eastern makeup--
it’s a nostalgic update on that classic clash of east/west I grew up with. The images evoke a kind
of playful nostalgia.

A little foolishness, mixed in with a little thought.

Evolution

These collection of work created by photographers that are very much influential in my work. It’s the
ideas that they embody and portray in their work that is so unique to them and their perspective.

Ashish Shah- India based photographer, he blends fine art and fashion elegantly. He produces work
that is very relatable with high fashion glamour, yet it seems personal.

Harrison Boyce- Commercial videographer / photographer. With an eye for fine art, he consistently
manages to create both meaningful and striking stills and videos whilst embodying the indentity of
the brands that he works with.

Jamie Hawksworth- His work is defined by their romantic warmth, simple beauty, and emotional
openness. Even his commercial work, the photographs are grounded in the subtle, elegiac and playful
heritage of British documentary photography.

Renell Medrano- Dominican-American photographer and director. She creates work that speaks to
her heritage, the intersections of culture within society and the communities around her. The work as
a result captures vulnerability and character.
