good afternoon dear viewers, welcome to our program talking to Africa.

Today afternoon we will be with three enterprising women from africa Charlize
Theron, Tsitsi Dangarembga and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

let's receive charlize. good afternoon charliz, how are you?

Hi Yina, I’m fine, thanks for your invitation.

Ok. We´re going to begin with our little interview.

1. What age did you have when decided that you be an actress?
-I was sixteen years old when I decided be actress after my knees failed and I couldn
´t be dancer

2. Did your parents agree your decision? *


-Yes, In fact, my mother was worried for me because I was depressed after my
dance career failed. But she encouraged me for I decided what way I wanted to take.

3. What thing or situation did help you to reach the fame?


-Once I had a discussion in a bank and John Crosby, talent agent, he was there, and
in this moment he gave me his presentation card and started my acting career. But I
think my perseverance helped me to reach my goals.

4. Which was your first appearance on the screens?*


-I began with Children of the Corn III in 1995 (nineteen ninety five) and my next
filmography was 2 Days in the Valley in 1996 (nineteen ninety six).

5. Which was the role that you liked the most?*


-My favourite role was Aileen Wuornos on the Monster movie, it was in 2003. She
was a serial killer and the movie based in her biography. I won four awards for this
role.

6. Are you going to work in any film now?


-I don't have a new project yet. I want to take a breath , I just finished a comedy
movie and I´m focus in the success of this. Its name is Gringo, this movie is about an
american businessman with problems with the mexican drug dealers

Our second guest is the writer of one of the twelve best African novels ever written, Tsitsi
Dangarembga. Thanks for being here.

Thank to you

Well, for people who do not know you, tell us.

1. where are you born?


I was born in Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. I was born when this part of Africa belonged
to England.

2. Tell us about your childhood.


I lived in England for a few years, but I returned to Rhodesia when I was six years
old. Coming back there . . . It was a shock In England there was racism, but when we
arrived in Rhodesia there were many people like me, black people. your attitudes
were different.

3. Did you study some careers and the same time you work, right?*
Yes, I studied medicine in University of Cambridge and psycology in University of
Zimbabwe but when i studied in zimbabwe i got my first job that was in a marketing
agency as a copywriter. This experience permited me have good foundation in the
writing

4. With which work you won the prize of writies of the commonwealth?*
With one of my first works, Nervous Conditions. that focuses on the story of a family
in post-colonial Rhodesia during the 1960s. it is the first of a trilogy The novel
illustrates the themes of race, colonialism, and gender during the post-colonial
conditions of present-day Zimbabwe.

5. You are also a film producer, tell us how it happened?*


Oh, Nervous Conditions was not so successful in the beginning. So I thought, Let me
try to do something different. I’d applied in film school in Berlin and been accepted.

6. What other projects did you do?*


Well, after studying in Berlin, I have written and produced many works. But the most
recent work is This Mournable Body, published in August of last year.

To finish our program we welcome Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
How are you? I appreciate your time and disposition

1. I would like to know where you studied your career as an economist?

I studied economics the College of West Africa, a preparatory school, from 1948 to
1955. Then I travel to America and continue my studies at Colorado University. I
started studying economics at Harvard from 1969 to 1971, earning a Master in Public
Administration.

2. We know that in 1973 you went to Kenya, for what reason?*

Yes, the reason because I went to Kenya is because in 1973 I worked Minister of
Finance but a coup d'etat overthrows Tolbert. I decided to travel to occupy high
positions in various financial institutions.

3. How many times did you apply for the presidency and in what year do you achieve
it?*

I was the first the president woman in all Africa. I got to be president of liberia in
2005,exactly on November 8 and my period ended in 2018. I tried it during 8 years
since 1997.

4. In 2012 you were involved in a strong controversy, tell us why?*

Oh, unfortunately, In March 2012 I was involved in a strong controversy because I


gave statements in which I defended the criminalization of homosexuality and just at
a time when two projects were being debated to toughen penalties.

5. What is the mission of the council of women world leaders of which you are a
part.*

The Council of Women World Leaders, an international network of current and former
women Presidents and Prime Ministers, whose mission is to mobilize the highest
level of women leaders worldwide for collective action on issues of importance such
as equitable development.

6. What role did your family develop in everything you have told me?*
The offspring of my family on politics is very long, I learned from my grandfather
being the first president of liberia, besides my father was the first legislator from an
indigenous group, I learned a lot from them in my process until I won a prize nobel.
