Methodology

The method of concrete mix design consists of selection of optimum proportions of water,
cement, fine and coarse aggregate and admixture if needed to produce concrete of specified
properties most economically. The proportions of concrete mix are obtained by experimentally
evolved relationship between the factors in the choice of mix design. It provides reasonably
accurate guidelines to arrive at an optimum proportion of ingredients. The final mix proportions are
obtained on the basis of trial mixes.

The mix design has been carried out as per the stipulations of Indian Standards keeping in
view the recommended standard deviation and target mean strength. The results of sieve analysis of
aggregates are given in Table 1. The fine and coarse aggregates are mixed in suitable proportion to
obtain recommended grading of combine coarse aggregate.

On the basis of a trial mix cast with the materials supplied by the client and test results for
workability and 28 days strength obtained, the mix proportions as given in Table 2 is recommended
for construction.
