KONE ReSolve 20 –
The complete and reliable modernisation solution
KONE’s leading-edge technology provides you with the latest modernisation package for geared
elevators up to 1.78 metres per second (350 feet per minute), for group sizes of 6 cars, serving 32 floors.
Utilising the same advanced serial transmission technology and core processing computer common
across the KONE ReSolve range, the KONE ReSolve 20 has a powerful drive processor enabling higher
speeds and more complex and demanding drive requirements to be met. The Local Area Network
architecture provides the benefit of distributed intelligence throughout the entire elevator.

The KONE ReSolve 20 system utilises the latest

technology to ensure that the optimum reliability
and performance is achieved, with the central
computer carrying out over 100 self-checks every
second. Thanks to it’s Local Area Network
architecture and Serial Transmission, KONE ReSolve
20 can isolate localised faults, such as stuck push
buttons and burnt signalisation fuses, maintaining
elevator service whilst isolating the faulty area. For
such an advanced system, KONE ReSolve 20 has the
added advantage of significantly fewer cables in the
elevator shaft. Modernising your elevator with
KONE ReSolve 20 substantially increases reliability,
as well as offering flexible features and options.

Safer Passenger Access:

Consistent levelling accuracy with Innovative BAR Reading
Elevators controlled by KONE Resolve 20 are assured of safe and consistent levelling due to the
sophisticated BAR position measuring system. A three channel reader enables a precise "map" of the
elevator shaft to be made, virtually eliminating stop errors due to position measuring and drive
decision delays. The powerful processing capacity of the KONE BAR system and the large amount of
information it manages are finalised by a KONE patented algorithm, which extends load
compensation from normal speed right through to the levelling phase.

Higher Speeds, Flexible Arrangements:

Flux vector control enhances performance and safety
For applications greater than 1.0 metre per second (200 feet per minute), a flux vector inverter
drive directly controls the current (torque) of the motor, ensuring that absolute floor levelling is
maintained at all times. Short floor-to-floor distances, as are sometimes present with front and rear
door configurations, are also possible.

Economically Convenient:
Reduced Power Consumption
KONE Variable Voltage and
Variable Frequency Drive

KONE inverters are the optimal solution for all traction elevators
in either Commercial or Residential applications. The inverter
adjusts and maintains the rotational speed of the motor in accordance
with the load and relative to the car position from floor level, thus
overcoming the limitation of AC motor performance:

> Reduction in power consumption : from 4,000 to 2,650 kWh per

year for a 630 kg, 1.0 m/s elevator making 150,000 starts per year
> Reduction in main fuses size, from 25 Amps to 16 Amps and
accordingly the related fixed electrical costs
> Smooth and consistent ride comfort
> Unique levelling accuracy integrated with Car Position Closed Loop,
thanks to the KONE BAR reading system
> Suitable for the modernisation of all geared traction elevators
> Reduction in the wear of the elevator ropes, sheave and brake SPEED (M/S)

Door System Solutions:

Retaining or Replacing with
KONE ReSolve 20
KONE ReSolve 20 will enhance the standard of
performance when interfaced with existing types of door
systems. All power-operated types are supported, with an
innovative inverter control unit utilised to improve the
performance, efficiency and safety of existing AC motor
driven types. Individually selective door control for
elevator cars with front and rear openings is also available
to increase passenger comfort and improve overall
elevator efficiency. However, for optimum performance
and safety standards, consideration may also be given to
the modernisation of the elevator door system with
modular KONE ReNova MMS door packages.

Elevator Groups:
KONE ReSolve 20 Traffic Handling
Expertise
KONE ReSolve 20 group control is suitable for elevator group sizes
for 1 to 6 cars, up to a maximum of 32 floors. The group control
system provides building-specific flexibility, with on-site adjustable
functions and sophisticated calculation techniques to automatically
adapt elevator group operation according to the prevailing
passenger traffic situations, minimising both passenger waiting and
travel times. Special group operational features are also available
with KONE ReSolve 20; such as prioritising individual floors,
optimising call handling across elevators serving different floors
within the same group and security locking of car / landing calls.

Don’t call us,

we will call you!
With KoneXion™, your elevator is linked round the clock
with the KONE Service Centre. Thanks to its intelligent
diagnostic capabilities, KoneXion™ immediately reports
anomalies. Work can be completed and equipment returned
to service without users even realising that a problem existed.

In the same situation, we can even inform you when an

incident is in progress, before you are aware there is a
problem!

If passengers are trapped in the elevator, with KoneXion™

they can talk directly to the Service Operator, and be informed
of the estimated arrival time of the technician.

Signalisation:
Visual Appearance Considerations
All existing types of signalisation can be satisfactorily interfaced to KONE ReSolve 20. However,
when modernising with KONE ReSolve 20, not only will your elevator be given a facelift by
upgrading the signalisation with modular KONE ReVive MMS signalisation packages, but
clear installation time and price benefits will be realised.

Even less downtime: NonStop™ Installation

Our user-friendly NonStop™ installation methods, considerably reduce the down time required for Modernisation
projects. When more than one working day is required, KONE has proven methods that put the elevator back
into service in either the working hours (commercial applications) or non-working hours (residential applications)
as much as possible. Thus the building users or residents can forget the stairs and utilise the elevator during either
the day or night as appropriate.

This is made possible by the modular nature of the KONE

ReSolve 20 package, including the installation-friendly shaft
bundles, which are designed to allow fitting alongside the
existing shaft wiring. Accurate surveying and ISO9001 quality-
controlled manufacturing mean that the bundle is packed in
such a way as to allow the installation engineer to precisely
follow a pre-defined installation process. This minimises
installation time and maximises the control of the installation
operation and associated safety.

Audited Working Methods: SafeMethod Installation

KONE ReSolve 20 electrification systems are based on a clearly defined installation process that has been thoroughly
risk assessed by an independent third party. The expertise of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health
(Työterveyslaitos), which is an approved EU Notified Body, has been incorporated into the product installation
method planning. The proven installation methodology greatly enhances safety through careful planning of tasks
and work in the varied environment of an occupied building.
