Introduction

4
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

Our skin is an extremely complex organ, made up of a massive number of cells. These cells have
specific roles and functions that are directly linked to our immune and nervous system.

That is because the skin is indeed an essential component of our body, one that isn’t merely its
outside layer, but rather an organ in its own right, both delicate and vital, one which contributes to
the continued health of our entire organism.

For many years we used medical, chemical treatments and other industrial solutions to take care of
it, but now is perhaps the time to discover— or rather rediscover— things which are actually good
for our skin, which allow it to remain in good shape and carry out its functions in our body.

The time has also come for us to realize that when we’re looking for a solution to the needs of our
skin, we shouldn’t necessarily buy chemical products whose real impact on our body and the
environment we ignore (or pretend to ignore).

The aim of this book is first of all to talk about the skin and what it needs from a natural standpoint,
one based on a healthy and balanced life and diet and the use, only when needed, of soft and natural
but effective products.

In the first section of this book, we will explain what our skin is and how it actually works. Indeed, it
seems important to us to have a better understanding of this overlooked organ to get a better sense
of what it needs.

We will then see the numerous functions of the skin with regards to our entire body and our health,
so that we can really appreciate just how important a healthy skin is and that it goes beyond how
outside appearances.

Finally, we will dive into the heart of the matter of this book, with practical and easy advice that can
be used to either maintain or regain a young and healthy skin.

There’s a chance you may find it surprising to see the size of some paragraphs that, at first glance (if
you’re skimming through this book), may seem a little off-topic. As we’ve already said and as we’ll
repeat later on, our skin and our body’s vital organs are totally interdependent and the way in which
one impacts the others is extremely important.

You will see for example why taking good care of your intestines means taking good care of your skin.
And that’s just one example out of many you’ll find in this small guide.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and let’s start at the beginning instead: What is the skin?

5
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

What is the skin ?

6
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

The skin is an extremely complex ecosystem. It is home to a stunning diversity of life forms, since
each of its layers presents its own characteristics, and each living element that is part of it plays a
very specific role.

As you probably already know, the skin is composed of several layers; which we’ll take a look at from
the outermost layer to the innermost layer.

The 3 layers of the skin

The first barrier: the epidermis

The epidermis is the part of the skin we’re obviously most interested in since it’s the outside layer,
the one that’s most vulnerable and most importantly the most visible one.

This first layer is actually itself made of three sub-layers, called the « basal » layer, the « germinal »
layer and the « corneal » layer (from the innermost part of the skin towards the surface).

The basal layer is where the epidermis’ cells are created, which will then migrate towards the surface
and form the germinal layer before getting closer to the surface and creating the corneal layer,
progressively drier and drier in the process. The cells of this surface layer will then die and will be
eliminated naturally. It’s the cells of this layer which constitute the part of the skin that’s visible to us
and which we usually take care of.

Since the corneal layer is mostly composed of dried up and dead cells, their cohesion is made
possible thanks to a hydrolipidic film which acts both a kind of cement and as waterproof surface.
This surface layer is pierced by numerous small holes called « pores ».

The epidermis is also home to cells that are part of the immune system, whose task is to defend the
skin. Chief among them are the melanocytes, well known because they’re the ones producing
melanin, a pigment which colors the skin to protect it from sun exposure.

The structure and the framework: the dermis

The dermis is the layer located in the middle of the skin, whose goal is to ensure its mechanical
characteristics function properly (resistance, elasticity, and firmness). It’s inside this layer that reside
all the living structures which ensure the whole thing « holds » together.

This tissue is particularly rich in structural fibers such as collagen and elastin, which allow it to fulfill
its goal as a sort of structure. Here you will also find blood vessels, nerve endings, lymph vessels and
two very important kinds of glands: surodiparous glands and sebaceous glands.

The first generate sweat and the others generate sebum. We will come back later to these glands,
because they are very important for our overall health and the detoxification of our bodies. It’s also
in the dermis that reside the roots of our hair.

7
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

The insulation: the hypodermis

This deep layer is the one that’s in contact with our bodies’ organs (muscles, tendons…). It’s also here
that all the fat cells will act not only as some sort of thermal insulation, but also to cushion blows
from the outside and therefore protect our organs.

The skin’s functions

Our skin is an extremely efficient organ which acts in close collaboration with almost every other
function of our bodies. But this labor and these interactions are often very discreet and poorly known
by most people.

1. The most sensorial organ of all

Obviously, and that’s something we’ve all easily been able to notice, the skin is the first organ to
experience sensations coming from the outside world. Made up of numerous sensory receptors, our
skin is the one thing that feels and transmits to the brain the contacts, pressures, painful sensations,
strokes, textures of objects (roughness …) or a living being.
It’s also our skin which is the first thing to react to coldness and results in goose bumps. A physical
reaction which is in fact merely each of our hair erecting to the surface to capture a layer of
insulating air (an instinctive reaction which has become much less useful since we are not blessed
with the « fur » of our ancestors).

When it detects heat, it is also the skin that is responsible for activating the sudoripare glands which
generate perspiration (whose goal it is to lower body temperature).

2. An essential protective function

The skin acts like a protective shell for our internal organs against many types of outside attacks our
bodies can be subjected to: chemical elements, germs, shocks, solar radiation, etc.
The most useful and efficient way our skin protects us is in its ability to prevent water from
penetrating it. It’s the sebum, an oily secretion generated by the sebaceous glands that acts like a
waterproof protective film to block water from the outside, but also water located in the deep layers
of the skin.

We will come back to the essential role plated by the sebum and the glands which produce it, and we
will see that an inadequate regulation of the amount of sebum has a direct impact on the health and
appearance of our skin (either too dry or too oily).
We all know how the skin protects itself from solar radiations by fabricating pigments (melamine)
which will color it and subsequently reduce its sensitivity.
The skin is also the outside alert system for our body’s immune system, by relaying all the
information linked to possible outside assailants so that in can ready up the appropriate defenses.

8
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

3. Disposal of wastes and toxins

Our skin’s role in evacuating some elements is vastly underrated; it’s a role that acts as an essential
complement to the other excretory organs such as the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the intestines.
First of all, one should know that a sixth of our total breathing is actually done by the skin, and more
specifically by the pores which act as small relays for the lungs. Helping the skin breathe by wearing
clothes made out of natural materials is therefore essential.

The sweat glands have a crucial role in evacuating wastes and toxins located in our blood, by filtering
them just like the kidneys do. Their function is complemented by perspiration, which can evacuate
up to half a liter of sweat every single day. That’s why sweating normally is extremely important!

Our bodies’ main cleaning organ is the liver, but it’s helped in its task by the sebaceous glands, which
produce the necessary sebum to eliminate so-called « colloid » substances. These wastes come from
the consumption of products that contain a lot of carbohydrates like cereals, bread, pastas… and
lipids.

We will come back to it later, but a healthy and « detoxified » liver has a major impact on the quality
and appearance of our skin.
As we can see, the skin has an essential role in purifying our organism in its entirety by being
responsible for a large part of this purification process. It being in good health will therefore have an
impact on how efficient the cleaning is.

Conversely, if it doesn’t fulfill this role properly, the other organs will have a hard time handling the
entirety of the cleaning process on their own and wastes can then accumulate and lead to
pathologies.

4. Taking care of the exchanges with the outside world

Since it is the organ located on the surface of our bodies, the skin is obviously on the front-line when
it comes to communicating with the outside world.
As we’ve already mentioned before, it acts as a thermal regulator by maintaining (except when it
malfunctions, in case of fevers …) the temperature of the body around 37°C (98°F). This regulation
process happens when heat is detected, through perspiration, but also with the dilation of capillary
blood vessels. When it’s cold, the retraction of these capillary blood vessels has the opposite effect
and preserves the internal heat.

We’ve also mentioned the air exchanges which happen via the skin. Actually, it is a small form of
breathing which captures oxygen to provide it to its cells and dispose of carbon dioxide.

Our skin is also the main spot where our body generates vitamin D through a chemical reaction
which, using cholesterol and the sun, results in the synthesis of this vitamin, which is essential for our
body to take care of calcium fixation.

9
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

The different types of skins

Most of us have a « mixed » skin, which is to say one that’s oilier on our faces than on the rest of our
bodies, where it’s mostly dry.
However, some people have a skin that naturally includes more sebaceous glands and therefore
produces more sebum. Those are called oily skins.
Other types of skins are dry (or even atopic), and their intercellular cement around the epidermis is
not as thin and not quite as healthy.
But what is important to keep in mind is that all these types of skin can, at some point or another,
display the same characteristics as excessively dry or oily skins.

How what we eat and what we do

impact our skin

11
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

The dangers for the skin, hidden in your diet

Enemy number 1: sugar
Sugar is responsible for a chain reaction called glycation, which stiffens and cracks the collagen in our
skin. Collagen is responsible for the firmness and the smooth texture of our skin.
Too much sugar in your diet and your skin will start to look like an old leather sofa that’s been left
too long in the sun: old, rough, wrinkled…

Even worse is the fact that glycation also results in your skin being more prone to age spots and
yellowing.

You may already pay attention to your sugar intake and your existing diet is perhaps already low on
sugar. Even still, it’s something you should keep in mind…

The hidden sugar in your diet

You may already avoid eating high-sugar products, but food manufacturers often conceal the
existence of sugar in food by giving it another name. Instead of the word « sugar » you may find
words like: cane, Dextrose, Fructose, Glucose Syrup, Honey, Lactose, Maltose, Modified Starch,
Sucrose, and Syrup.

Worse even is the fact that sugar is often present in some types of prepared food where you would
least be expecting it, including for example in low-fat meals and meals who supposedly help you lose
weight.

The reason for that is that food companies add sugar to increase palatability (that is to say how
pleasant food is for the palate) and increase the texture of a product without adding fat.

That is why some salty foods like sauces, soups and other products can include an unexpected
amount of sugar.

Here are other food items which can contain a surprising amount of sugar:

• Low-fat yogurts
• Protein bars
• Cereal bars
• Flavored water
• Light vinaigrette dressings
• Milk substitutes (for example soy, rice and almond milk)
• Pasta sauces
• Soft bread (including whole meal bread and other « healthy » variants
• Dried fruits

12
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

Enemy number 2: hydrogenated and trans fat

Trans fatty and hydrogenated acids not only increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases in your life,
they also lead to inflammations because your body will generate toxic chemicals as a response to
these fats. Inflammations are long-lasting fires which also destroy healthy cells and bring about
hormonal imbalances. When hormones are out of control, your skin is the first to suffer from it.

Those hidden fats can, slowly and quietly, damage your skin for years before you start noticing their
real impact.

Cellulite, for example, is a result of inflammation and a malfunction of the production of these cells.

Unfortunately, these types of oils are hidden in everyday food items. That’s because manufacturers
often use them to increase their products’ shelf life.

13
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

Outside aggressors
Our skin is also threatened by the intense use of cosmetic products, or products that are either
poorly balanced or even harmful: too fat or too corrosive. Just like our lungs, the skin is also
vulnerable to air pollution.

An alternative to traditional cosmetic products: Slow Cosmetics

« Slow Cosmetics » is an association created in 2013 whose aim is to raise awareness for a more
responsible and sustainable use of cosmetic products.
The core principles of slow cosmetics are as follows:

• Ecological cosmetics : respect for the environment

The idea is to favor cosmetics made from natural and organic ingredients, and which
underwent as little transformation as possible, therefore leaving out products resulting
from synthetic chemistry, animal exploitation and containing any polluting ingredients.
In the same vein, it’s about lessening the impact on the environment by favoring local
products.

• Healthy cosmetics : respect for living beings

It’s about the absolute respect for the living (human, animal, plants) and when in doubt
applying the precautionary principle

This respect for living beings has to take into account both the short term and the long
term toxicity of the ingredients.

• Smart cosmetics : decreased but better consumption

The idea is to only taking care of the real needs of the skin, and responding to those
needs in an a way that’s both reasonable and adequate. Concretely, each product must
have a real and positive impact on the skin.

• Sensible cosmetics : respect for the truth and ethics

Products must be advertised and sold using real arguments and descriptions without
using commercialized tricks and manipulating consumers.
In the same vein, the product must be sold and bought for a fair price which
corresponds to its real cost and quality.

In essence, Slow Cosmetics is firstly about understanding the real needs of the skin, and secondly
about selecting products (bought or homemade) which truly answer those needs.

can be beneficial for the skin

15
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

Natural products
Among the numerous natural products which can be used and have a positive impact, clay is
essential because of its versatility, its effectiveness and how simple it is to use.

It is a powerful cosmetic tool which yields spectacular results.

Clay, the queen of skin care products

Clay can be used as poultices, masks or as creams and powders. On top of its draining and cleaning
action, it also has antiseptic, antitoxic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, healing,
decongestant and deodorizing properties.
Clay can be used in different forms which will prove more or less useful depending on the desired
effect.

The possible uses of clay

• As a face mask: mixed with some vegetable oil, fine clay can be used to make cleansing and
purifying masks.
Combined with jojoba oil and clary sage, the mask will have an absorbent and purifying effect
for oily and acneic skins (apply the mask for 10-15 minutes).

Combined with avocado oil and chamomile extract, the mask will have a soothing effect for
irritated or sensitive skins (apply the mask for 10-15 minutes).

• As a cleansing cream: as a cream made from fine clay and water, it can be used as a
substitute for soap or shower gel for irritated skins. This cleaning and purifying cream, which
can be kept for 4 days, can be used on a daily basis, for the face and for the rest of the body.

• As poultices: can be used in case of injury, pain or inflammation as a paste made of finely
crushed clay. To be used directly on the skin during several hours, or even all night long.
Since the clay is only effective while it’s wet, the poultice must be thick enough (at least 2
centimeters) to preserve a wet layer during the entire use.

• As powders: sold as powder, fine clay can used as a substitute to talc since it shares the same
absorbing, healing and antiseptic properties, but is actually more efficient than talc.
Used for itches and eczema, it will calm them while helping the cells regenerate.
It can also be used directly as powder to clear or stop the bleeding when it comes to small
cuts.
Homemade and entirely organic skin care products
Making your own body or skin care products by using all the natural ingredients available in your
local fresh products store is very easy.
These homemade recipes contain pure and fresh ingredients which will have a more powerful, more
active and more efficient impact than most commercial products (which contain preservatives and
chemical products).

You might be surprised to see how easy, cheap and effective these preparations are to make, as well
as the wonderful sensations they’ll provide for your skin.

A protective shield: your immune system

You best ally when it comes to protecting your body from outside viruses, bacteria, parasites and
every harmful elements existing in the environment is your immune system. He’s the one who will
not only protect your body, but also your skin against diseases.

Various elements play a part in determining how effective your immune system is, such as your diet,
you physical exercises, your sleep, etc. You shouldn’t therefore favor one component over another to
increase your body’s resistance, but rather an ensemble of notional factors and habits in your daily
lives which depend on one another.

The importance of the intestines as immune defenses

By themselves, the intestines contain 70% of the cells which make up the immune system, making
them the main player in this battle.
The intestinal mucosa is a very complex ecosystem, one which blocks prevents potentially infectious
intruders from getting into our blood stream and then in our vital organs. How healthy and how
smoothly this assemblage of cells functions depends on a rather fragile balance which can be easily
disturbed.
An appropriate diet, one possibly complemented by probiotics, is very important because it will help
beneficial bacterial strains populate the intestines, which will in turn help the microbiota regenerate.

19
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

How your nutrition impacts the immune system

Let’s go through a few basic rules regarding what a healthy nutrition is, one which will help provide
your immune system with all it needs to combat intruders.

Fruits and vegetables, obviously

It’s not exactly a surprise or a big scoop, but it’s essential to eat vegetables during every
meal, and not be afraid to increase the portions! Eating fruits twice a day is also
recommended

Oils, but not just any oils

Fatty acids are important, but only if you eat the right ones. Favor olive and rapeseed oils,
but only those where you’ll find the following on the label: virgin, first cold-pressed and
organic).
Fatty acids present in oil seed (nuts, almonds) also provide a little help to the immune
system.

Water, but one that’s low on mineral content

Too much mineral content in the water and therefore the body makes it harder for
excretory organs, the intestine in particular, to do their work. You must therefore look for
water with a rate of « dry residue » (or « amount of mineral salts ») below 200 mg/l.
You can also drink tap water after having filtered it.

Wholegrain cereals

All types of cereals must be consumed either wholegrain semi-wholegrain and organic:
wheat, rice, pastas, bread, etc. Millet and quinoa are also interesting kinds of cereals, since
they provide you with many essential nutrients.

The beneficial power of spices

Many aromas and spices have antiseptic (such as garlic) or anti-inflammatory (such as
turmeric) properties.

More fish

All types of seafood (fatty fishes, seaweeds, seashells) are excellent when it comes to the
intestinal microbiota’s regeneration. Consider increasing their importance in your diet by
obviously favoring those found in the wild rather than picked up in farms.

Forget about sugar

White sugar, as well as refined products like white flour (and therefore white bread) lead to
a very high insulin production and therefore decreases how effective the immune system is.

20
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

How to boost your immune defenses

In normal cases, and if you follow the advice outlines earlier, your immune system, supported by a
healthy lifestyle, should be able to adequately fulfill its role.

However, if you need to quickly bolster it, it is possible to give it a boost so that it can once again
function at its fullest.

Here are some interesting substances which help achieving this goal:

• Vitamins C and D.

• Minerals and trace elements: magnesium, selenium, iron, copper, zinc.

• Probiotics are beneficial bacterial strains which help replenish the intestinal microbiota.

• The Echinacea is a plant which stimulates the immune system.

• All the hive-related products, and especially propolis, help our body defend itself.

The negative impact of stress

Stress is one of the main— if not the main— enemies of the immune system. Cortisol is a type of
hormone secreted by adrenal glands when we experience stress. When the level of cortisol in our
bodies gets too high, the efficiency of our immune system dwindles.
Furthermore, stress generates visible tensions on our skin, which makes it look tired and not healthy.
In the long run, these tensions start to really wear out the skin and it starts deteriorating more
rapidly.

It is therefore essential to relax, by practicing activities you enjoy, by doing some physical exercise,
maybe by giving yoga and complete breathing a try, or simply by breathing a better air. Essential oils
such as citrus limon, citrus sirensis, citrus paradisi or citrus aurantium, diffused in a ventilated room
can help lowering stress levels and tensions.

The immune system needs sleep

Disrupted or incomplete sleep can rapidly disturb our immune system. A good night’s sleep is
therefore important, which is why the next chapter of this book is dedicated to this important topic.

21
FLAT BELLY RESET | WRINKLE FREE SKIN IN 3 WEEKS

Do not neglect the importance of sleep

Why is sleeping so important?

When we sleep, the skin (as well as the rest of our body, of course) enters a « restoration » mode.
The major organs such as the muscles, the digestive system (hence why it’s important not to eat too
close to the time we go to bed) and the heart are resting. Our metabolism and hormones then switch
functions and start healing and repairing the body. The skin regenerates 30 times as fast during the
night than during the day, during deep sleep periods.

Some advice to get a good restorative night’s sleep

Relax yourselves
Abdominal breathing exercises or mediation are both excellent when it comes to relaxation.
A warm bath can also have a relaxing effect on the body.

Pick carefully the kind of food you eat in the evening

Tryptophan is an amino acid which is involved in the manufacturing process of serotonin,
which is the neurotransmitter enabling sleep regulation. It is therefore advised to consume in
the evening food rich in tryptophanes, such as bananas, dates, cashews, pumpkin seeds,
wholegrain cereals, turkey, eggs…

Steer clear from exciting products

Products with an exciting effect like coffee, black tea, chocolate and sodas should obviously
be avoided, but alcohol should be as well since it severely delays how fast tryptophan gets to
the brain and lowers melatonin.

Pick your bed sheets carefully

Some fabrics like linen or hemp can regulate your body temperature and help you relax.
What’s more, they also have a positive impact on your skin.

Steer clear from natural sedatives

Several types of plants have been known to have sedative effects for centuries: passiflora,
chamomile, lime, lemon balm, etc.
You can prepare your own herbal tea by combining these plants, or ask your pharmacist to
create a herbal preparation tailor-made to your specific sleep problems.

Help your liver

A hot water bottle laid down on your liver can help it fulfill its role during the night and
therefore help you sleep better.

And now...

This guide is far from having examined this fascinating subject from every possible angle, or even
from claiming to provide an exhaustive overview!

The goal we hope we have achieved was first and foremost to sensitize you to how important it is to
have a healthy lifestyle, an appropriate care program and mostly to use natural products.

We cannot advise you strongly enough to deepen your knowledge if these topics, to perform your
own researches and to try out your own recipes, to exercise regularly and to eat food that is as kind
to your body as can be.
