The need of the hour is to re-engineer warehousing
operations to align more with the market conditions
and demands. In recent times, the logistics industry
has initiated huge investments in emerging
technologies in S&OP planning, automated solutions
for material storage and retrieval, robotics, systems
and processes that facilitate value-added and
comprehensive logistics management. But it’s time
to think inside out. Inventive businesses are looking at ways to augment current storage
space and to make the most of existing facility through reconfiguring their storage
systems. Intelligent operational layout, bespoke racking systems and necessary level of
automation have immense potential to contribute to the warehouse excellence.

Fastest Growing Freight Forwarder - Air (North & East 2017): Cargo Partner Logistics India

Still, a long way to go

Ravinder Katyal, Director - Air Cargo & Head of Co-load Indian Subcontinent, Cargo Partner Lo-
gistics India, believes, “We need to build airfreight corridors and transshipment hubs and road in-
frastructure. Young talent need to be attracted for air cargo, usage of more IT solutions handling,
specially for 3PL and 4PL businesses. We also need to start looking into more bonded facilities/

Lowered trade barriers

Presenting airfreight forwarding perspective, Vineet Chadha, Managing Director, Combined Lo-
gistics Solutions, shares, “The increasing imports and exports between nations have lowered
the trade barriers because of the relaxation of government trade policies. This has resulted in an
increased demand for freight forwarding services for the existing vendors globally.”

Best Air Freight Forwarding Company (North & East 2017): Rahat Continental

Need of logistics support

Rahat Sachdeva, Vice President, Rahat Continental, opines,“The logistics sector in India remains
mired in several complexities which could hold it back. Looking at all these factors and in the era
of globalisation, Indian products will lose the competitive edge if not backed by efficient logistics
support. Average logistics cost in India is high at 13-14 per cent of GDP compared with 7-8 per
cent in developed countries.”
