MGSEK.CC.4

Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.

1. When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each

object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only

one object. (one-to-one correspondence)

Technology Standard Addressed:

Communication and collaboration:

Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at
a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

This lesson supports UDL in many ways, it is a fun and engaging activity for the students. Students
are using action and expression as they interact with the materials they have found. They are
showing what they have learned as they create the iMovie. Engagement is displayed because the
students are creating a product using technology that they have never used before. This is very
encouraging and motivating for students because it is a fun way to display what they have learned.
Lesson idea implementation

To introduce the project the teacher will link the video she has created in an email and send it to the
students’ parents. This email will provide written instructions along with the visual/auditory
instructions.
The teacher will begin the iMovie by explaining to the students how to create an iMovie. Then the
teacher will explain that the students are going to find ten objects within their home. They will be
instructed to put them in a row and count them using one-to-one correspondence. Student learning
will be assessed by their finished product regarding the activity they are instructed to complete.

To extend this lesson to a higher learning level I will have students find more than ten objects within
their home. They will have to count them using one-to-one correspondence as well. To conclude the
lesson the students will share what they learned from this activity. To provide students with
feedback I will discuss their final product with each of them individually or through email.
Importance of technology:

The importance of technology in this project is that it displays the expectations of the lesson. The
students would not understand how to make an iMovie without guidance. The project could not be
completed without this technology because the students are creating a product using iMovie.

Inspiration (optional):
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

To ensure that students are safe when using the internet, I will talk to their parents about the
dangers of inappropriate usage. I will encourage them to speak with their children about it to
ensure that they are safe online. I will suggest that they complete the iMovie with their child and
assist them throughout. This will allow them to monitor and help them along the way. When
communicating with students online we will use private online learning communities.

Reflective Practice:

The activity I created for the students will help expand their knowledge of the concept. The students
will learn how to communicate using technology. This will support individual learning and increase
their understanding of collaboration using technology. To further extend the lesson I could ask the
students to find ten more objects and try to count those out as well.
