CHATHAM HABITAT FOR HUMANITY SHIFTS WOMEN’S BUILD EVENT

PITTSBORO, N.C. – Chatham Habitat for Humanity have postponed the in-person

Women’s Build event, which was scheduled for the weekend of April 30, due to the novel

coronavirus, though virtual mini events are still being offered this April.

Rachel Horowitz, Chatham Habitat’s volunteer program manager, said the in-person

event will be postponed to sometime in the late summer or fall and stressed the organization’s

importance to Chatham County during the pandemic.

“This is a tough time,” Horowitz said. “It is clear that COVID-19 will have an outsized

effect on Chatham Habitat’s most vulnerable populations. We serve families who work in retail,

food service, medicine and other service industries. The critical need for affordable housing will

only grow in the wake of this event, and with your help, we plan to be here to meet that need.”

The organization will be giving a virtual home tour at 11 a.m. on April 30. The tours will

be of Chatham Habitat’s three new homes on College Street in Siler City. Viewers will be able to

see inside and learn about Chatham Habitat’s new energy-efficient construction practices.

There will also be a virtual happy hour at 5 p.m. May 1 to socialize with our staff and

Women Build crew leaders, as well as other Women Build participants.

Chatham Habitat will send you a Women Build Spotify playlist and cocktail recipes.

Other small virtual events and surprises will also be announced during those days by

Chatham Habitat, and the events are open to anyone seeking greater involvement in the

community, not just women. Donors who give at least $25 will receive a Women Build t-shirt

and certificate.

About Chatham Habitat for Humanity

Chatham Habitat for Humanity has created affordable housing for more than 130 families in Chatham
County since 1989 by connecting low-income families with hundreds of volunteers and donors. We
coordinate fundraising, land acquisition, site selection, partner family selection and support, house
construction and mortgage servicing in order to build safe, decent places to live. We partner with
families who are able to commit to a 20-30 year 0% interest mortgage and are willing to contribute 350
hours of labor during the construction process.
