ASSIGNMENT 3

CRADLE TO CRADLE

A new discipline within the scope of the integrated planning of buildings has been created with “circular
engineering” that is the one of content recycling or reuse related to the construction that this enables
answers for all questions concerning the recyclability and materials used in buildings. Circular
engineering in construction not only provides knowledge in the areas of planning and construction
processes but also a high level of expertise in health and environmental compatibility of materials and
available industrial products that provide in many construction in Malaysia.

In construction , its related to

1. Reuse : using a product without changing ,whether for an original or different application.
2. Recovery : capturing element of a product of the material use at the construction.
3. Recycle : processing a product or component into a changed form usually for a different
application.
4. Remanfacture : rebuilding a product to its original or better specification .

In this context, the “Building Material Passport” serves as a planning and documentation tool, for
enabling the recyclability of a building in collaboration with architects, all planning disciplines as well as
the construction firms. For completed construction projects, the Building Material Passport additionally
provides detailed information on which of the used materials can be easily separated, as well as on the
chemical composition of the products used in the building. It is also possible to determine the monetary
value of the structures used in the buildings. This information on the building provides you with
considerable added value for financing, through aspects of risk assessment, value determination as well
and also occupancy and maintenance as the operation of the building.

CRADLE TO GRAVE

It includes the cradle to site results but also includes the GHG (GreenHouse Gas) emissions associated
with the in use of the material or product (maintenance) and the end of life (disposal, reuse, recycling).

As the term , it is concept that related to the construction of productive/service right from crestion to
disposal throughtout the life cycle at the site. The concept analysis includes physical goods as well as
services and technological processes. It is a technique to asses environment impacts associated with all
the stages of a product’s life from raw material extraction through materials processing,
manusfacture ,distribution , use, repair and maintenance and disposal or recycling.

Designer use this process in the construction to help critique their products. The main stages of the life
cycle usually follows the this concept model that full life cycle at the site. Occasionally the cradle to
grave model concept ( partial life cycle until its reaches the consumed ).
