INTRODUCTION:

DEFINITION: Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through


colonization, use of military force or other means

* Imperialism is originated from Latin word 'Imperium' meaning 'to rule over large territories'

* The age of Imperialism, a time period beginning around 1700

* It occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its
economic, political or cultural life

Imperialism has played a part in the histories of Japan, The Assyrian empire, the Chinese,
roman, Greece, persian, Indian,ottoman ,ancient egypt empires

ADVANTAGES:

1)nation growing

2)cutural diffusion

3)more commerce

4)exchange of technology

DISADVANTAGES:

1)lost of traditions from conquered countries

2)revolts /revolution

3)if imperialism is cruel ,many people killed.eg:genghis khan

NEO-COLONIALISM:

DEFINITION:it is the geo political practice of using capitalism,bussiness globalisation and


cultural imperialism to influence a country

 imperialism includes some form of colonialism but colonialism itself does not
automatically imply imperialism,it lacks political focus.

 it is the control of the less developed countries by developed countries through indirect
means.

 this term was first used after second world war to refer to the continuing dependence of
former colonies on foreign countries

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES:

 lack of food and water

 polution problems

 social unrest

 civil wars,diseases

 forced labour for children

 increase in informal sectors like sex trade etc.,

SYNOPSIS:

 the meaning of imperialism is to create an empire by conquering the other states lands
and there fore increasing its own dominence

 the colonialism is the builder and the preserver of the colonial possesssions in an area by
a population coming from a foreign region.
