Re: NCM 0103 – Laboratory; Final Course Requirements

Objective: The following set of activities aims to facilitate the continuity of learning rudimentary skills
and procedures essential for learners under the NCM 0103 lab course. Specifically, this aims to provide
avenue for the exercise and evaluation of skills on the following:
1. Positioning of patients
2. Transferring of patients
3. Bedmaking – Unoccupied

INSTRUCTIONS

A. Positioning of Patients
a. Submission: Return-Demonstration Video
b. Details:
i. The mock patient in the video should be an adult with a copy of a written
consent for participation that would be part of the submission. The mock
patient is required to WEAR a FACEMASK at all times.
ii. Learners have the free hand to improvise on any equipment or supply that may
be needed in the performance of the procedure. However, use of such should
be mentioned clearly in the demo.
iii. The video should be one continuous take. NO edits are allowed (e.g. voice
overs, cuts, patches etc.) Also, this video would cover items 1 to 12 of the
Positioning and Turning Rubrics available in your MyClass files.
iv. Prior to submission, review the quality of video taken. Make sure that lighting is
sufficient and audio is loud and comprehensible for evaluators.
v. Perform the procedure in your video as if you are in front of your clinical
instructors.
vi. File name should follow this given format:
FULL LASTNAME, Initial of given name-Positioning
(example: QUARANTINO, C. – Positioning)
vii. Upload completed video to Google Drive (encouraged) or Youtube (this is a
public domain that can be viewed by outsiders), together with the signed
consent, and submit the link through the assignment that will be posted on
MyClass.
viii. Deadline: April 21, 2020 (Tuesday)
ix. Note: Learners who have performed their return demonstrations prior to ECQ
need not to submit a video. Learners who have initially submitted videos have
the option to recreate their video submissions.
B. Transferring of Patient to Chair
a. Submission: Return-Demonstration Video
b. Details:
i. The mock patient in the video should be an adult with a copy of a written
consent for participation that would be part of the submission. The mock
patient is required to WEAR a FACEMASK at all times.
ii. Learners have the free hand to improvise on any equipment or supply that may
be needed in the performance of the procedure. However, use of such should
be mentioned clearly in the demo.
iii. The video should be one continuous take. NO edits are allowed (e.g. voice
overs, cuts, patches etc.) Also, this video would cover items 13 to 20 of the
Positioning and Turning Rubrics available in your MyClass files.
iv. Prior to submission, review the quality of video taken. Make sure that lighting is

v. Perform the procedure in your video as if you are in front of your clinical
instructors.
vi. File name should follow this given format:
FULL LASTNAME, Initial of given name-Transferring
(example: QUARANTINO, C. – Transferring)
vii. Upload completed video to Google Drive (encouraged) or Youtube (this is a
public domain that can be viewed by outsiders), together with the signed
consent, and submit the link through the assignment that will be posted on
MyClass.
viii. Deadline: April 21, 2020 (Tuesday)
ix. Note: Learners who have performed their return demonstrations prior to ECQ
need not to submit a video. Learners who have initially submitted videos have
the option to recreate their video submissions.

C. Bedmaking – Unoccupied
a. Submission: Return-Demonstration Video
b. Details:
i. A mock patient is NOT needed for this video.
ii. Learners have the free hand to improvise on any equipment or supply that may
be needed in the performance of the procedure. However, use of such should
be mentioned clearly in the demo.
iii. Divide the procedure into three clips as follows (refer to the Bedmaking:
Unoccupied Rubrics):
1. Pre-procedure to folding of linens (Items 1-2)
2. Bed stripping to closed bed (Items 4-8)
3. Open bed to surgical bed and after care (Items 9-11)
iv. The video should be one continuous take. NO edits are allowed (e.g. voice
overs, cuts, patches etc.)
v. Prior to submission, review the quality of video taken. Make sure that lighting is
sufficient and audio is loud and comprehensible for evaluators.
vi. Perform the procedure in your video as if you are in front of your clinical
instructors.

vii. File name should follow this given format:


FULL LASTNAME, Initial of given name-Bedmaking A for clip 1
(example: QUARANTINO, C. – Bedmaking A)

FULL LASTNAME, Initial of given name-Bedmaking B for clip2


(example: QUARANTINO, C. – Bedmaking B)

FULL LASTNAME, Initial of given name-Bedmaking A for clip 3


(example: QUARANTINO, C. – Bedmaking C)

viii. Upload completed video to Google Drive (encouraged) or Youtube (this is a


public domain that can be viewed by outsiders), together with the signed
consent, and submit the link through the assignment that will be posted on
MyClass.
ix. Deadline: April 24, 2020 (Friday)
