Q1 - Recruitment process: How it is affected by the current situation and


what in your opinion can be the alternatives to do the hiring process.

As everyone is very aware about the current economical and political situation of globally, employers
still recruiting, many are turning to HR tech products like virtual interview to maintain a safe distance
while finding new talent. Being on HR person we should take some step considering, in current situation
we suggest to initiate interviewing by online procedure like Skype interview, what’s up and other virtual
option, by adopting this procedure, we avoid to maintain social distancing and get positive response
toward organization. In case of interviewing with higher management we should arrange conference
interview with candidate via different modes of electronic media.

Q2 - Employee Support Programs: What can be done in order to ensure


that the employees working within the organization feels part of it and
supported.

HR staff should make sure that employees are using their health, wellness and leave benefits to stay
healthy.

HR staff should be given advice to employees:

 Follow guidelines posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
 Use wellness programs to instruct workers about hygiene and disease prevention.
 Tell employees to stay home if they have a fever and cough and to seek care for severe
respiratory distress.
 If employees need to be off work for a long time, try to be lenient about the use of leave under
the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
 HR also responsible to educate employees regarding awareness about virus
 Considering transportation issue HR should arrange company conveyance for employees in a
specific period.

Regarding employees support program HR should allow some employees to work at home , in alternate
day working , employees must report to management and show their presence through this procedure ,
employees engage in work and organization also follow them side by side ,

Q3 - HR Policies: What new policies could be the part of your organization
keeping the current situation?

In the current situation, HR professional can play in key role in formulation organizational HR policies:

Example HR policies

In continuation of the precautionary measures being taken to ensure readiness against Coronavirus and
lock down situation, the following steps are being implemented with immediate effect:

WORK GUIDELINES: Employees coming to office must carry their CNIC and Employee cards at all times.
The HR department will also issue a company letter indicating your employment in order to avoid any
commutation issue by law enforcement agencies. 

We will be issuing guidelines to work from home. We have identified respective departments where
work from home may be encouraged to maintain social distance and to cope with lock down situation.
The groups of employees and their time schedules have been discussed with the respective
departmental heads and will be circulated before day end today. All employees to have access to email
and critical phone contacts to be shared across teams. Also, staff working from home or other locations
are STRICTLY ADVISED TO REMAIN INDOORS AND AVAILABLE DURING OFFICE HOURS (SHOULD NOT GO
TO PUBLIC PLACES AT ALL TIMES). 

MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE: Employees to maintain a physical distance (especially in elevators – not
more than 3 people at one time) with their colleagues & preferably use stairs and please do not shake
hands.

EXTERNAL MEETINGS: Meetings to be discouraged, however where necessary for business-critical


reasons, not more than 4 employees should be physically present at the same time. However, we
encourage you all to use video conferencing or tele-conferencing.

EXTERNAL VISITORS: External visitors should be avoided wherever possible. However, if unavoidable,
not more than 2 employees should be present. Please use the designated meeting areas only for
meeting with external visitors.  

INTERNATIONAL/DOMESTIC TRAVEL: Please stop all domestic/international travel. Employees returning


from domestic/International travel shall work from home till one week upon their return before
resuming office and coordinate with HR personnel and immediate supervisor for work from home
schedule.

PRAYER AREA: Any congregation particularly communal prayers & prayer areas have been identified
world-wide as a major source of virus transmission. In this context restrictions have been placed globally
including Saudia Arabia, Iran, Iraq etc. Therefore, communal prayers should not be held and individuals
are advised to bring their own Janamaz (Prayer Mat) and pray at their place of work individually.
LUNCH TIMING: Timing for lunch is being extended from 1:00 PM -3:00 PM. Seating distances should be
maximized. (I prefer to have an empty chair in between to maintain social distance).

Much of the situation around COVID-19 is evolving around the world and we are continuously
monitoring the developments & will keep you all posted about any advisories from the government &
the company.

Please keep a health check on yourself and people around you. In case, any employee feels to have any
symptomatic indications related to corona virus, kindly self-isolate yourself and get a medical advice
immediately. 

Let's cope the tough times with optimism and protect each other to maintain a healthy work
environment.
