VITAL INFORMATION
Subject(s) Mathematics

Topic/Unit of Study & Topic: Mathematics

Time Allotment
Unit: Using Different Measurements

Lesson: Types of Measuring

Grade/Level Kindergarten

Objective
1. Students will be able to identify lengths of objects, using
academic language longer and shorter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
2. Students will be able to identify heights of objects, using
academic language taller and shorter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
3. Students will be able to identify weights of objects, using
academic language heavier and lighter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
4. Students will be able to create their own measurement
problem, using sentence frames and two toys in their home to
show hwo they measure correctly, to at least 75% accuracy.

Summary This lesson is cut into smaller segments to help students during
online learning. Each segment will follow the pattern of vocabulary,
objective, SMPs, example in real life, video, direct instruction and
guided practice, explanation of independent practice, and problem
solving. Students will begin by watching the prerecorded length
lesson, then height, next review of length and height, and lastly
weight. After they go through the pattern in each video, they will
begin the workbook assigned in SeeSaw. Students will then complete
the problems, using circles and "x"s. At the end, they will find two
objects at home, compare them correctly, fill in the sentence frames,
record their voice reading the sentences, and post a picture. Once
students have turned in work, they will get audio and commentary
feedback to make revisions and work with the teachers on their
learning goals. Teachers will assess based on the different work
turned in, revisions, viewing of videos, etc.
IMPLEMENTATION
W (Where, Why & What) Subject: Mathematics

Topic: Measurement

Standards:

K.MD.1 Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or

weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object.

K.MD.2 Directly compare two objects with a measurable

attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of”
the attribute, and describe the difference. For example, directly
compare the heights of two children and describe one child as
taller/shorter.

Goals: Students will learn about the different kinds of measurement,

how to use them, and the correct way to use them in real life
situations.

Objectives:

H (Hooked & Hold) Anticipatory Set:

Students will start by watching the videos of their teacher going over
vocabulary, objectives, and introducing the subject with real objects
and a short explanatory video.

Essential Questions:

1. How can measurement be used in real life?

2. What ways can measurement help us describe objects and
compare them?

E (Explore & Experience) Sequence:

1. Introduce terminology
2. Objectives
3. SMPs
4. Life example
5. Video
6. Drawn example
7. Guided practice
8. Explanation of independent work
9. Problem solving
10. Feedback & Revisions

Instructional Strategies:

1. Problem-based learning: students will have the opportunity to

find objects and explore in their house to compare lengths,
heights, weights, and explain them.
2. Direct instruction: Students will watch the pre-recorded video
to introduce the types of measurement
3. Modeling: Students will watch in the video as the teacher works
through problems to show them how to measure in different
ways, giving examples of length, weight, and height.
4. Hands-on experience: Time learning through technology to
enforce ideas by drawing objects, taking pictures, and using
audio recordings.
5. Independent practice: Students will complete online
assignments and turn them in through their workbook on
SeeSaw.

R (Rethink, Revise & Check for Understanding & Monitoring Student Learning:
Refine)
Students will turn in written, drawn, photo, and audio recorded work
for this assignment. This will help teachers check for understanding
by seeing their thought processes, common mistakes, and how well
they completed the work.

Students will then be given revisions through audio and commentary

on SeeSaw, giving them the chance to go back and try again before
finalizing their work.

Conclude/Summarize:

Students are given problem-solving work at the end that can be

revised to show their overall learning and how well they understand
how to correctly measure and how to use terminology.

E (Evaluate) Diagnostic:

A pre-assessment will be done to show what students already know

about measurement and where the gaps are. This consists of 6
questions, looking at height, length, weight, and capacity and how to
line up the objects. Students will be ranked on a scale from 0-3 based
on explanations and how they answered the questions.

Formative:
The original student work submitted into SeeSaw, prior to feedback,
that shows how students followed along, their understanding, and
what needs more of an explanation.

Summative:

Final work submitted into SeeSaw, after revisions

Summative test at the end of the unit, showing what they
learned, how well they know terminology, and what could be
reviewed.

*Rubrics will be used for the summative assessment at the end of the
unit

T (Tailored)
No grouping is used during online learning sessions

Differentiation & Adaptation:
