VITAL INFORMATION
Subject(s) Mathematics
Grade/Level Kindergarten
Objective
1. Students will be able to identify lengths of objects, using
academic language longer and shorter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
2. Students will be able to identify heights of objects, using
academic language taller and shorter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
3. Students will be able to identify weights of objects, using
academic language heavier and lighter to describe them, to at
least 80% accuracy.
4. Students will be able to create their own measurement
problem, using sentence frames and two toys in their home to
show hwo they measure correctly, to at least 75% accuracy.
Summary This lesson is cut into smaller segments to help students during
online learning. Each segment will follow the pattern of vocabulary,
objective, SMPs, example in real life, video, direct instruction and
guided practice, explanation of independent practice, and problem
solving. Students will begin by watching the prerecorded length
lesson, then height, next review of length and height, and lastly
weight. After they go through the pattern in each video, they will
begin the workbook assigned in SeeSaw. Students will then complete
the problems, using circles and "x"s. At the end, they will find two
objects at home, compare them correctly, fill in the sentence frames,
record their voice reading the sentences, and post a picture. Once
students have turned in work, they will get audio and commentary
feedback to make revisions and work with the teachers on their
learning goals. Teachers will assess based on the different work
turned in, revisions, viewing of videos, etc.
IMPLEMENTATION
W (Where, Why & What) Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Measurement
Standards:
Objectives:
Students will start by watching the videos of their teacher going over
vocabulary, objectives, and introducing the subject with real objects
and a short explanatory video.
Essential Questions:
1. Introduce terminology
2. Objectives
3. SMPs
4. Life example
5. Video
6. Drawn example
7. Guided practice
8. Explanation of independent work
9. Problem solving
10. Feedback & Revisions
Instructional Strategies:
R (Rethink, Revise & Check for Understanding & Monitoring Student Learning:
Refine)
Students will turn in written, drawn, photo, and audio recorded work
for this assignment. This will help teachers check for understanding
by seeing their thought processes, common mistakes, and how well
they completed the work.
Conclude/Summarize:
E (Evaluate) Diagnostic:
Formative:
The original student work submitted into SeeSaw, prior to feedback,
that shows how students followed along, their understanding, and
what needs more of an explanation.
Summative:
*Rubrics will be used for the summative assessment at the end of the
unit
T (Tailored)
No grouping is used during online learning sessions
GATE:
Students use the problem solving at the end of the lesson
to write their own sentences, explaining them with audio
recordings, proper spelling and writing
Can move through the workbook/online assignment at
their own pace
Spelling and grammar practice identifying objects in the
assignment and writing them out
EL:
Audio recorded lessons
Visuals in lesson video
Manipulatives working on the online assignment
Color coded lines and pens to idetify objects
Visual representation of problem solving at the end so
that they can actively engage in the learning with
manipulatives
Audio recording themselves to practice speech
Audio instructions attached to assignment
Sentence frames to help with language
Audio commentary and feedback from teachers
Shapes to identify objects on assignment
Can pause and rewind the video as many times as they
need
SPED:
Audio recorded lessons
Visuals used in lesson video
Touch screen availability for online assignment
Color coding on assignment and in lesson video
Visual problem solving to engage in exploring and
manipulatives
Audio recording of assignment
Sentence frames
Shapes to identify the different measurements of items
Pause and rewind if needed
Audio commentary and feedback from teachers
Audio instructions
At Risk:
Availability on all computers
Video easy to access at any time
Internet and computers provided by school
Immediate feedback that can be saved for right then or
later on when available again
Subsequent Lesson:
Technology:
1. Height PDF
2. Length PDF
3. Weight Lesson
Resources
Materials and resources:
My Math Text (Teacher Edition & Student Workbook Online),
Chrome Books, SeeSaw Account, Microphone, Camera, Hot
Spot or other internet connection, Parental Supervision,
Speakers
Technology resources:
Chrome, Dig. Cameras
Students Familiarity with Software Tool:
Students use Chrome Books, SeeSaw, Internet, and other online
learning tools on a daily basis.
Standard:
2. Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in
common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute,
and describe the difference. For example, directly compare the
heights of two children and describe one child as taller/shorter.
