THEORY AND DISCUSSION

A. Definition Of Simple Past Tense

To show that an act of activity occurs in the past and ends at a certain
time in the past and the end time is known. The verb used in this tense must
be the second verb (verb 2). Similar to simple present tense, this form is one
of the most basic tense and is often used when writing or speaking in English.

B. Formula Of Simple Past Tense

Because this formula is simple, the formula is simple. We only need
Verb-2 as an absolute feature of the past tense formula. So the basic formula
of the verbal sentence is: S + Verb-2. As for nominal sentences, we must
make "to be" into verb-2, which is "was and were". This tense is said to be
simple because simple past tense only wants to provide information about a
job that has happened in the past without wanting to show that the work is
being done or has been done.
