Tornadoes
I. Introduction

A. Tornadoes, fire tornadoes and waterspouts are the types of natural disasters we are

figuring out the future of

1. The three of these are similar but very different when it comes to how dangerous and

effects of one

2. They all do severe damage to places but each of them is on a different dangerous

level then others

II. Tornadoes (Normal)

A. Depending on the size of the funnel shape on the tornado depends on how dangerous it is

1. If the funnel is wide, it means that it’ll last a longer period of time and be more

dangerous

2. The size of the funnel also affects the speed of the winds, the bigger the funnel the

higher wind speed

3. If it’s a small funnel it’s a short lasting not super dangerous tornado, but the small

funnel tornadoes are so thin at the bottom that it could go between two houses and

only hit the one in the middle

B. The average speed of an average tornado is roughly 200mph

C. The avg time that the tornado lasts are roughly 15 mins, but some have been recorded for

hours

D. Tornadoes when first formed are pretty much invisible until it starts moving a little

picking up dust and other surroundings

E. For tornadoes to form they need: warm and moist air, and cold and dry air mixed with

crosswinds then those conditions make a tornado form

F. A tornadic thunderstorm is a thunderstorm that has a chance of a tornado to form

1. United states have the most tornadoes in the world, mainly (west and south)

III. Waterspouts

A. A waterspout is a column of rotating cloud-filled wind

1. Waterspouts can only form doing a cumulus cloud

B. Waterspouts are formed when there is a bad thunderstorm over a large plot of water

1. They aren’t actually formed from the water beneath them though they have water in

them from the condensation of the cumulus cloud

C. Waterspouts are the least dangerous tornado out of the three

D. They are the same concept as tornadoes but are always smaller and less intense

1. The most dangerous types of waterspouts though are (Tornadic Waterspout)

2. Fair-weather waterspouts are the most common kinds of waterspouts, but are rarely

dangerous

3. Fair-weather waterspouts are formed during a not fully developed tornadic

thunderstorm

E. For either of these types of waterspouts to form there needs to be a lot of humidity of a

big body of water

1. Waterspouts are most common in tropical and sub-tropical waters

F. There are five stages for a waterspout to form]

1. Dark spot

2. Spiral pattern

3. Spray ring

4. Nature vortex

5. And decay

G. The largest waterspout to ever be seen had a diameter of 330ft and lasted up to an hour

IV. Fire-tornadoes

A. Fire tornadoes where recently discovered and have only been three sightings in the world

so far

B. For a fire-tornado to form there needs to be a normal tornado starting to form overtop of a

big fire

1. The tornado sucks up the fire creating a fire-tornado

2. Fire tornadoes while spinning shoot little ashes that can start other smaller fires

3. Fire tornadoes give the biggest destruction out of all three of the tornadoes

a. It burns the things in its path while also picking things up the funnel
