Improving We have now completed 3 months of language training. You can read, write
and speak Myanmar!
But how can you remember everything? How can you continue to learn? The
following is some good advice on how to do just that:
How to improve your vocabulary, pronunciation and understanding:
· SPEAK! This is the most important point. Even if it doesn’t
come out just right, say it! Don’t be shy and hold back. The
more you try, the faster you will learn. This is the key to learn-
ing a new language
· Continue to keep a personal ‘dictionary’. Write down any new
words or phrases you come across. Practice them whenever
you can
· Go back and review the material for this class regularly
· Continue to listen to the recorded conversations. Try to imitate
the correct pronunciation as you listen
· Buy a good dictionary and use it
How to improve your reading:
· Make it a habit to read something in Myanmar every day
· Read the daily text out loud to each other every morning
· Read signs on shops and buildings when you are outside
How to learn at the meeting:
· Try to sing the songs in Myanmar at the meetings
· Take notes during the public talk. Don’t do other reading, be
attentive!
· Prepare and give answers as often as possible
Conversation Each day this week we have been listening to this recording. Finally we have
learned all the words in the conversation. Now when listening, follow along
reading the English version:
