a. Parkingbrake(112) is not released.
b. Travel motorexhaustports (D) and(B) are not aligned.

Hydraulicoil enterschamber (b), a drilled passagein the right-handside of break

brakespool(123), to the left, compressing brakereturn spring(128).

Withbrakespool(123)shifted to the left:

a. Parkingbrakeport (P) is uncovered allowing oil underpressure

If the hydraulicoil whichhasbeensuppliedto port (A) is suspended during

travel, brakespool(123)is returnedto neutral(shifted to right) bybrakereturn

Thetravel motornowacts as a pumpsupplyingpressureoil to brakespool

Everymovement of the travel motorforces moreoil fromport (D) throughthe

Thefunction of chamber (g) is to providea placefor excessoil underpres-

sure fromport (D) or (C) to escapewithout pressurerelief valves(201a)
(201b)to relieve. Thus, the chamber is workinglike a accumulator.

Oil underpressure in port (D) will staybelowrelief setting of (201a)until

piston(213)is fully stroked. If travel motoris still ableto turn, oil in port(D)
unseatrelief valve (201a). Thehigh pressurereliefwill nowbe low pressure
supplyoil to the suctionside of motor, chamber (C). Therelief oil replenishes
oil at port (C) andkeepsthe hydraulicmotorfromcavitating.

If the hydraulicmotorcontinuesto turn piston(213)at full stroke, oil pressure

is equalat port (D) chamber(g) and(f), andrestrictor valve(201a)is
at a higherrelief.

Thenvalve(201b) (left-handside) opens,allowingthe oil in port (D) to flow

higher than a relief set pressureon the excavator.

In this way,the pressurein port (D) is controlledin twostepsby the SRV

BRAKE VALVE

Brake Valve Function

TheBrakeValvecontrolsthe flow of oil into andout of the hydraulictravel motorin

the followingconditions:

BrakeHolding:in neutral position the brakevalvefunctionis to keepthe hydraulic

motorfromturning.

MotorAcceleration:whenthe brakevalveis not in the neutral position the motoris

ableto turn.

Stoppingthe motor: whenbrakevalve is broughtto neutral the flow of oil to the

motoris shutoff andthe motoris no longerableto turn.

Counterbalancing:to slowly de-celeratethe hydraulic motorthat is rotating by

external forces applied to the motor, causingthe motorto becomea pump.

Threemajor components
to safeguardthe hydraulic motor:

Break Spool

Shifting of brakespoolto allowsthe brakevalveto:

a. Supplyoil to the hydraulic motor
b. Shutoff the flow ofoil to the hydraulicmotor
c. Restrict the flow of oil dischargedto the hydraulicmotor

This allowsthe hydraulicmotorto:

a. Accelerate
b. Stop, hold
c. Counterbalance

CheckValve(built in the brakespool)

Thecheckvalve servesas an oil feedingpath to the hydraulicmotor, stopsthe oil

dischargedfromthe hydraulic motor, acts as a suction (anti-cavitation) valve for
the hydraulicmotor,anda holdingvalve.

Relief Valve(locatedin the hydraulicmotor)

Eachmotorassemblyhas two relief valves whichwork with the brake valve to

protect the motor. When oil underpressureat the dischargepath of the hydraulic
motorreachesa set point, the relief valvebypasses
high pressureoil to either of
the low pressurepathsto safeguard the circuit.

BRAKE VALVE

BrakeValve(Holding,Neutral)

Withthe brakespoolin the holding(neutral) condition, ports VAandVBare

opento hydraulictank. Spool(2) is centeredin the brakevalve by the action
of springs (4) located on eachside of the spool. Sinceoil paths VA--~MAand
VB-~MB are closed, oil confined at ports MAandMB(motor side of spool)
hold the motorin a hydrauliclock.

Sincethe pathof the parkingbrake(P) is not subject to high pressureoil, the

parking brakeis not actuated. Thus, the hydraulic motoris mechanically
stoppedformrotating. If an externalforce acts on the hydraulicmotorthe
motorrotation is stoppedby the parkingbrake.

If the parkingbrakeis releasedby highpressureoil at port (P), oil under

pressureis built up on the MAor MBside. Internal leakagein the closed
circuit of the high pressureside causesthe hydraulicmotorto turn slightly. The
motorturning slightly will generatecavitationon the low pressureside of the
motorcircuit. Thecheckvalvebuilt in spool(2) allows makeup from the
hydraulictank to enter the lowpressureside of the motorcircuit to prevent
cavitation, equal to the leakagein the high pressureside to paths VA~MA or
VB---~MB.

BRAKE VALVE

BrakeValveTravel Operation(Acceleration)

Thetravel motorwill acceleratewhenthe brakevalvespoolis shifted to position

port VA(inlet) with the hydraulicpump, andport VB(outlet) with hydraulictank.
Oil from the hydraulic pumppushesup the checkvalve located in spool (2)
port VA. Oil from hydraulic pumpis then suppliedto hydraulic motorthrough
port MA.

Whenoil underpressurefrom the hydraulic pumpis delivered to port P, the

parking brake springs are compressed. The compressedsprings allow the
parkingbraketo release.

With the rise in pressurein the pilot chamber spool (2) movesto the left
overcoming spring(4). Withpilot oil at portVB(outlet), oil return
MB~VBis formedto rotate the hydraulic motor.

If the inertia (load) of the hydraulicmotoris large, the pressurenecessary for

accelerationwill reachthe set pressureof the travel relief valve. Oil goingover
travel relief will effect the speedof the travel motor.Theoil goingoverthe travel
relief will continueuntil the motorstarts to accelerate.Asthe speedof hydraulic
motorincreases, the pressurewill decreaseat the travel relief. Oncethe oil
goingovertravel relief hasstopped, the speedof travel motorwill be controlled
by the flow ofoil fromthe hydraulicpump.

BrakeValve(Stop Operation)

When the flow of oil to the brakevalveis shutoff, oil pressurein the pilot cham-
bers on both sides of the brakevalve spoolare equalized, causingbrakespool
(2) to return to its neutralpositionby the actionof return springs(4). Thehydrau-
lic tankwill supplyoil to bothports VAandVBwith the brakevalvespoolin
neutral.

Withbrakevalvespoolin neutral, oil pathMA~VA is shutoff, andoil flow to port P

(travel motorparkingbrake)is shutoff. Thespringappliedhydraulicreleasetravel
motorparking brakemechanicallystops the travel motorfrom turning. Movement
of the excavator(inertia) will attemptto rotate the hydraulicmotor.Thehydraulic
motorturnedby inertia continuesto dischargeoil fromthe hydraulicmotorto port

until the oil at port MBactuatesthe MBport relief valve.

BRAKE VALVE

Brake Valve (Counterbalancing)

Counterbalancing
action is requiredto keepa positive pressureat the inlet of
the hydraulicmotorby restricting the oil discharged
fromthe hydraulicmotor.

Counterbalancing preventsover-speedingof the hydraulic motor, example;

Theexcavatoris traveling downhill, the weightof the machineon an incline
removesthe positive pressureat the inlet of the motor.Thehydraulicmotoris
in an over-speedor run-a-waycondition.

Note: Thehydraulicmotorwillloosethe positive pressureat the inlet in

a slow turn.

To stop the hydraulicmotorfromcavitating, the brakevalve spoolwill shift,

restricting the flow of oil fromthe hydraulicmotor.Pressure in the pilot cham-
ber on the path MA-->VA (inlet) drops, andbrakevalve spool(2) is pushed
the right (restricted position) bythe actionof spring(4). Asa result, pressure
at MB(outlet) increases, thus the hydraulic motoris subjectedto a braking
action.

If the volumeof oil suppliedto hydraulicmotoris reducedbelowthe amountof

oil the hydraulicmotorcandisplace, the pressurein the pilot chamber
on the
VA(inlet) port drops,causingspool(2) to moveright dueto springaction
the left handside of the spool.

Theresult is that the brakingaction of the counterbalancevalveis increased,

andthe revolutionof the hydraulicmotoris regulatedto a level equalto the oil
supplyat path MA-->VA (inlet).

Todampen the movementof brakespool(2), tworestrictor’s (8) are built

the pilot chamberof the brakevalve assembly. This restrictor is locatedin
eachof the brakevalve capsto provide steadycounterbalancing action.

TRAVEL MOTOR

Travel MotorFunction

TheTravel Motorconsistsof:
1 Rotarygroup; Generatesrotating power
2 Parkingbrake; Preventsmotorfrom turning
3 Pilot selectorvalve: Twospeed motor

Rotary Group
Cylinderblock(3)is fitted in the splinetoothgroveof shaft (9), that is supported
bearings(31,32) at its both ends.Thecylinder block (3) is pressedagainst
cover(2) with valve plate (8) by the action of cylinder spring (29). Nine
assemblies (14) slide alongthe surfaceof shoeplate (11) while goingin and
of cylinder block(3). Theendface of the piston assemblies (14) is equipped
a bearingthat reducesthe movingresistanceof the piston assembly.Theaction
of the cylinder spring(29) is transmittedto springseat (13), ball joint (12)
shoeretainer (4) in that order, so the piston assembly moves on contactwith the
surfaceof shoeplate (11).

Oil underpressuredelivered by the hydraulic pumpenters the motorthroughthe

oil inlet of rear cover(2) andis admittedto cylinderblock(3) pastvalveplate
(8). Thehigh pressureoil acts on the pistons locatedwithin 180° acrossthe
line Y-Ythat connectsthe piston’s top deadpoint andthe bottomdeadpoint.
Shoeplate (10), havingan inclination angledof theseradial components, acts
on the shaft Y-Yas a rotation force andbuild up torque.
Thistorqueis transmittedto the spline of shaft (9) via cylinderblock(3) and
eventuallyconveyed to shaft (9).

ThePilot SelectorValveallows the operatorto select twofixed positions of the

swashplate. Theswashplate pivots on twosteel balls whichare fitted into the
backside of the swashplate andthe motorcasting. Thepilot select valve con-
sists of:

1-1 Stopper
11 SwashPlate
21 Piston
23 Pivot Balls
41 Pilot Select Valve

Thetilted rotation angle (minimum swashplate angle) is achievedwhenpilot

valve(41) shifts allowinghighpressureoil to flow to piston(21). Thepilot valve
(41) shifts in response to the external commandoil andthree checkvalves(17).

Overload Valve Function

Twooverloadvalvesare arrangedin a crossovercondition andfunction as follows:

Theoverloadvalve keepsthe breakpressurebuilt up on the motordischargeside to a
consistentlevel whenthe hydraulic motoris Stoppedin order to dampen
the load in-
ducedinertia.

This is doneto turn the hydraulicmotorat a specific pressureandprovidea sharp

accelerationat the start, andto dampen shockcreatedby the brakingat the stop. The
overloadvalve executesa pressurerise to dampen the generatedlow pressurespikes
at a specifiedpressurelevel after the sprocketof the reductionunit is engaged
smoothly with the travel reduction.

When the pressureat port A in the overloadvalve raises at the start the hydraulicmotor,
it acts on the effective diameterof the overloadvalve, then seatsthe valveseat(40-3)
off the valve(40-2) andon the piston (40-4) of the valveinterior througha smooth
in the valveto raise the pressureto port A to a presetlevel. Theoverloadvalvebrings
the pressureto a specifiedlevel to counteractthe force of adjust spring(40-9) due
the effect diameterof the valve seat andthe differencebetween the interconnecting
piston bore diameter.
When the hydraulicmotoris braked, the piston(40-7) at the rear is shifted on the left
side by the actuatingpressure. When the pressureof port A rises, it acts uponthe
pistonthroughthe smalluntil it hits plug(40-5), duringwhichtravel holdsA pressureto
relatively lowdive, resisting adjust spring(40-9)anddischarging the oil to port B. After
the pistonhits the plug, the sameactionoccursat the start.

Theoverloadvalve I~rotects the travel motorassembly

from pressurespikes andoil
starvation(cavitation)of theunit.

When the overloadvalve is threadedinto the rear cover assembly, valve seat (40-3)
makes a positive seal allowing oil underpressureto flow throughthe center section of
the overloadvalve. Oil underpressuremeetsresistanceon Piston (40-4). Thepilot
body(40-6), whichis fitted the boreof the overloadvalvepiston(40-7), is inserted
the pilot body(40-6) andis pressedagainstplug (40-5) by the action spring(40-14).
Theaction spring is shimadjustedandis pressedagainstplug (40-5) by the action
spring (40-14) andspring adjusting shims(40-8).
