21. Summary
A Floating Dock was built in Lautoka, a facilities owned by Chacal Maritime Engineering Pte Ltd. The
project was set to bring in more revenues because of its location and its holding capacity. The location of
the floating dock was agreed by the Fiji Ports Corporation (FPCL) and approved by Maritime Safety
Authority of Fiji (MSAF). MSAF implements and enforces laws on the protection of the marine
environment from ships and any offshore platform. They are responsible of ensuring that ships follow
regulations and guidelines. They ensure that spills are contained, water pollution minimized and marine
life are protected. The involvement of MSAF gives assurance that marine life is preserved.
