Programs
This report presents lows and highs of imported English-language TV programmes.

Recently, many tv channels imported English-language TV programmes . These programmes are

addressing to a wide range of audience and covers a multitude of topics as news, films, cartoons,
documentary and entertainment.

Popularity of imported programmes

There are tv channels which are entirely broadcasting English programmes, like the
Documentary type, presenting science, history and nature topics. These have an educational impact and
a large public is interested in their programmes: Animal Planet, Discovery Nature, Science, History.
Compared to local programmes from the same category, Discovery Nature for example, the foreign
programmes provide a higher level of informations and attractive subjects, due to their more expensive
budgets. They bring in front of public unusual and exotic places from all over the world with
fascinating landscapes, novel traditions and ways of living from different cultures. Their contribution to
raising cultural level of the public is obvious and welcomed.

Science programmes presents the fabulous advance of science from the last decades and the historical
documentaries come with detailed and fascinating stories of the most important moments of
humankind history, as they dive deep in secrets burried long time ago and revealed by the time passed
by the researchers and archeologists.Even though our country gave a lot of brilliant scientist to the
world Pasteur, Babes, Paulescu, Henry Coanda, they not seem to be on the front stage where they should.

The most popular category, the entarteinment one, is largely attractive for kids, teenagers and adults
comprising from cartoons, movies, music, cooking lessons. Paprika Tv for example is one of the most
favourite channel with a variety of cooking lessons, presenting recipes from the basic ones to exquisite
and fency dishes from different intenational quisine.

Otherwise, the local entertainment programs, provide a questionable level of mediocrity, (like Maruta
Show, Las Fierbinti )promoting non values and creating low standards of behavior and false idols for
teenagers.

Conclusions

Overall, imported English TV programmes are very useful for improving English skills of
audience and widening knowledge levels in a diversity of fields, as they get local people in touch with
different cultures.
Consequently to competition with the foreign channels, the local programs had lost part of their
audience, and Romanian authentic legacy, tradition and values might be endangered, and prone to be
undervalued.

There should be taken public measures from the government to give facilities to local tv posts for
upraising educational level of programmes by inviting the cultural romanian figures, top level artists,
authors, scenarist, doctors so as to give higher morality standards to the Romanian public.
