COURSE AND SECTION INFORMATION

Class Time & MW: 01.00 PM – 02.30 AM at NAC 209

Location
Course Eco 172, Eco 173, Eco 244
Prerequisite(s)
Course Credit 3:0
Hours
Course Eco 372 is the first course in econometrics. This course introduces
Description students to multiple regression analysis and several methods for
analyzing data in economics and related disciplines. This course is
both theoretical and applied in nature. Students will understand
theoretical aspects of different statistical models, their assumptions,
and how to incorporate them to address and test economic theories
and hypotheses. Students will also deal with real data sets and apply
their acquired theoretical knowledge using statistical software
STATA.
Course Objective of Eco 372 is to enable students to choose suitable
Objectives statistical methods and deduce important inferences. This course
will emphasize on different kinds of inferences that can and cannot
be drawn from statistical analysis. It will also provide necessary
tools to students to make estimation in a variety of business and
economic scenarios.

Student On successfully completing this course, students will be able to
Learning understand the follwoing:
Outcomes 1. Students will be able to do multiple regression analysis. They
(SLOs) will be able to choose a topic conductive to regression
analysis, specify a regression equation, run descriptive
statistics on the data using a software, run regressions,
interpret and evaluate results, and write a report detailing the
regression project and the results.
2. Students will be able to distinguish between quantitative and
qualitative variables and will be able to construct and use
dummy variables
3. Select the appropriate econometric model for addressing
econometric questions and defend their choices
4. Assess the validity of empirical analysis in a variety of
business and economic contexts.

First Midterm Exam 25

Second Midterm Exam 25
Quizzes 10
Group Assignment 10
Final Exam 25
Attendance 5
Total 100

GRADING POLICY

NSU’s grading and performance evaluation policies will be followed in assigning your
grade.

Group Assignment: The assignment will be based on the application of materials

learnt in this course using a statistical software named STATA. The maximum group
size for this assignment is 3.

EXAMS AND MAKE UP EXAMS POLICY

There will be two quizzes. The quiz accounts for 10% of the course grades and calculated
averaging two quiz scores. The above table provides the details of the grading scheme.
There will be NO make-up for quizz(es).

Missed mid-term exams: There will be no make-up midterm exam if missed. However, if
there is a major circumstance that prevents student from taking any of the two (not both)
Mid-term exams, student May be allowed to appear in a make-up Mid-term exam.
Student(s) must provide me with official documents that prove their reason for missing
