3 General provisions for seismic design

3.1 Seismic action and structural seismic proofing

3.1.1 The seismic impact coefficient of the building structure should be determined
according to the intensity, site type, design seismic grouping and structural natural
vibration period and damping ratio. The maximum horizontal seismic influence coefficient
shall be adopted according to Table 3.1.1-1; the characteristic period shall be adopted
according to the site category and design seismic group according to Table 3.1.1-2, and the
earthquake of 8 and 9 degrees may be calculated. The characteristic period should be
increased by 0.05s.

Note: The seismic influence coefficient of a building structure with a period greater than
6.0 s should be studied specifically;

2 Cities that have prepared seismic fortification zoning shall be allowed to adopt the
corresponding seismic impact coefficient according to the approved design ground motion
parameters.

Table 3.1.1-1 Maximum horizontal seismic influence coefficient

Earthquake effect 6 degrees 7 degrees 8 degrees 9 degrees

More earthquakes 0.04 0.08 (0.12) 0.16 (0.24) 0.32

Rare earthquake - 0.50 (0.72) 0.90 (1.20) 1.40

Note: The values in parentheses are used to design areas with basic
seismic accelerations of 0.15g and 0.30g, respectively.
